      Customer Success Specialist Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at McGraw Hill in Nov 2022

      Interview

It started off well with a recruiter emailing me to schedule an interview within 2 days of submitting an application. They need to figure out a better process for scheduling an interview, as the recruiter gave me 3-4 dates and times and when I responded with my preferred time, she emailed back 6 hours later saying that the time had already been taken by someone else. It would have been nice to have an online scheduling tool such as Calendly to avoid these inconveniences. The initial phone screen with the recruiter went well as I got to learn more about the company and the role itself. After this initial call, I waited 5 days to hear anything back. I reached out to the recruiter again and within a couple of hours they let me know that I will be interviewing with the hiring manager. Why did this process take 5 whole days? And why did I have to be the one to reach back out when that is the job of the recruiter? When I finally get to my interview with the hiring manager, it was one of the most awkward interview experiences I have ever had. Everything sounded so scripted and she was not even building off of my responses to make it more of a conversation. Hiring managers should not be socially awkward. As the interview came to an end, there was no discussion of next steps and once again, it was a very awkward situation where we both just said "bye." I could not get over how unprofessional she was. At this point, I was no longer very interested in the job considering that I would have to work with this hiring manager if I were hired for the position. To make it worse, I had to wait another FIVE days to hear ANYTHING. I still didn't! Once again, I was the one who reached back out to the recruiter asking whether or not I would be moving forward. Why is it so hard for you all to provide a simple update? It's as if you all have no regard for other people's schedules and are just stringing us along for this game. This was a learning experience for me, as it was a direct reflection on how McGraw Hill works as a company with utter disorganization and lack of communication.

I applied online. I interviewed at McGraw Hill

      Interview

Talent acquisition reached out a month or so after so applied and ask for more details via email. Was told team would get in touch. Kept pushing to agree to their ‘budget’ for the role or they wouldn’t move forward. Never have I experienced being bullied into agreeing or disagreeing with a set salary for a budget before actually getting into the interview process. Goes to show the company doesn’t care much about attracting quality talent

Great experience. The entire process took about a week. Everyone was really nice, caring an accommodating. I was able to meet with a variety of people in the department, and felt really supported and valued as a candidate.
