Pretty straightforward functional interviews with a group of folks that the role intersects with. All of these interviews went well and the team was excited for me to move into the final rounds of interview. The final round of "exec" interviews were kind of a mess. I couldn't get much of a sense for the focus, and frankly the table wasn't really set to have a discussion of the sort of candor that they were looking for. I need to trust folks to be vulnerable in that way, and the stoic demeanor of the folks running this portion of the interview was counterproductive for me. I wont fault them, Im sure there are people who sail through these sorts of discussions but I need to feel safe to be vulnerable, and I didn't. At any rate, this all points to a culture mismatch, which I think was apparent from both sides of the virtual table.
