Question 1
The technical screens involved being able to manipulate SQL and Python. If you have a fairly good handle on those, including the ability to set up some basic class structures, you should be good fine.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Notion Labs (California City, CA)
Interview
Its long and have 3 rounds of coding. one hiring manager round and one final panel round. a screening round. It felt lengthy and time taking. But the company is awesome. Anyone who is applying for that company should have a good grasp on coding.
I applied online. I interviewed at Notion Labs (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2023
Interview
Interviewed with Notion in Aug/Sept 2023. Process took about 3-4 weeks and made it through to the final interview. You have to sign an NDA to not share the interview material. They have it well documented in their interview guidebook:
- Recruiter Call
- Technical Screening (with two engineers)
- Main Round of four interviews: coding, data modelling/design, cross-functional (behavioural), project deep-dive (behavioural)
- Interview with Head of Data (behavioural)
The recruiter was extremely helpful and responsive all throughout the process! All engineers during the interview process were very friendly and asked great questions. It was fun talking to the Head of Data as well.
The only weird part of the process was when I was told that the Head of Data would be my last interview, and yet they scheduled me for an interview with the Head of Finance. I find that strange for a data engineering IC role, especially after 6 interviews. It seemed like it was a stall because that interview was cancelled the day before, once another candidate accepted their offer. I guess that's the reality of the interview process.
