The interviewer was 20 minutes late to an afternoon interview. Management refused to allow workers to work from home, despite a worldwide pandemic. The jobs can be done from home, but management wouldn't allow it. The conversation went well, and I was told I would not meet with management on that day. I was given a series of "IQ tests" with oddball questions. Then I was given a typing test, which revealed that I type 90 words per minute. The administrator told me I was doing very well, and she wanted me to meet with a higher-up. The higher-up and I sat on a couch and talked for a couple of hours, and it was a pretty lighthearted conversation, but she was emphatic that she didn't approve how I spent my furlough during the Covid shutdown. I let her know I had been applying for jobs, brushing up on the foreign languages I speak, learning to build furniture, and even took a couple of summer courses at a nearby university. She said she didn't want to hire a student, because the priority wouldn't be the job. I asked her if she has that same concern when hiring parents. She did not like that I challenged her. Three days later, I received a generic email saying they wish they could hire everyone (after telling me they were hiring like crazy) but that I was not selected.
