I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Rocket (Detroit, MI)
Interview
I was recommended to QL by another employee. I received a call from a recruiter to set up a time for a telephone interview. On the phone interview the conversation seemed very forced as the recruiter was young and inexperienced. He seemed to be reading off a script. I was not asked about my precious work experience at all, which includes over five years of experience as a top performer a mortgage company. I was not even sure for which position he was interviewing me. I tried to ask about the position, offered to discuss my precious employment, but was cut off by the recruiter as if work experience and qualifications did not matter at all!
I hung up feeling bewildered. I then went online and decided to look at the open jobs to actually apply for the jobs I was interested in. I found about six different positions that I actually had experience doing at the other mortgage company. I applied to all of them. They ranged from entry level bilingual (I speak Spanish fluently) customer service rep (they call it Client Ambassador I believe) who answers the simplest questions about escrow, insurance and the loan to paralegal, for which I have 9 years of experience both in the mortgage industry and in law office settings.
I then received a call from the recruiter who said that the job he interviewed me for was not a fit. I then contacted him to advise that I applied for other positions within the company for which I have experience. He said that at the time he interviewed me, he had considered me for all open positions and I was not a fit for any of them.
I guess my own personal opinion is that it is good to have a mix of entry level employees and experienced employees to diversify the team and ensure that the company has a knowledgeable team with members that have experience and the wisdom regarding the industry to help the entry level workers. I am not sure if it is that QL doesn't want people with previous experience because they believe that they won't be able to train them to fit the QL mold, or if they just want to hire people straight out of college without experience so that they can pay them less. I am not sure which is the case.

Question 1
Are you okay with working 50-60 hours? (I answered yes)
Why did you leave your last job? (I answered that it is because I was at the highest position I could achieve without going to law school. I felt like I had more to offer and wanted to get back into the multi-faceted mortgage industry where I could work hard and possibly move up within the company.)

Interview
You will do a total of 3 interviews. The first interview was phone with a recruiter. During this interview you are going to mainly be asked about your resume, past jobs and what you did there on a day to day basis. Be ready to show them that what you did before has prepared you to do well as a banker for their company. At the end of this interview they will hopefully ask you to do a credit check to make sure that you are eligible to get licensed and if everything pans out with that, you will be called by a mortgage recruiter to set up an in person interview within 48 hours. On this in person interview they are again going to ask you about your resume, why you left your previous positions, why you are interested in becoming a banker at Quicken and go over the experience you have. They will ask you other questions such as "What is the toughest thing (besides a death of someone close to you) that you had to go through and how did you get through it?", "What is one thing that your previous employers would said you could have improved and how could you improve it?" and "What is your greatest weakness besides being too nice and working too hard." At the end of this interview they ask you to do a mock sales call. You will get information on one of their companies and 5 minutes to look it over - if you have sales experience or experience talking over the phone, this is your time to prove it. Relax and read the bullets of information you were given, it's all there. After you end your second interview they will call you in 72 hours and schedule for you to meet with a director or RVP for your third and final interview. I met with an RVP in his office on one of the banking floors. This was my first chance to get to see everyone doing what I was interviewing for. My third interview was mostly going over what we did on the second interview and we talked about why I truly wanted to be a part of Quicken Loans. After we talked, he let me shadow a Senior Mortgage Banker and listen in on a call. Before I left I also got asked by a director to send an email telling him why I would be a good fit and leave him a voicemail trying to get him to return the call. My advice for someone who gets this task is to do it within an hour of you leaving. They are all about urgency.
