      Marketing Interview

      Dec 22, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SpotOn in Oct 2025

      Interview

It's always a huge red flag when companies ask for an assignment (Video or design test) to simply apply for a role. It truly shows their lack of respect for the hiring process and creatives. I applied on Linkedin, within 2 weeks a recruiter reached out to me requesting an interview though the timing was inconvenient for me. I attempted to schedule it for the following week but the recruiter explained that they were trying to hire/interview asap so feeling the pressure, I folded and set up an interview that I participated in from my hotel room after a red-eye flight. Right off the bat, the recruiter seemed disinterested, in fact, they muted themselves and I spent about 15-20 seconds trying to get their attention after I was done answering a question. I almost hung up, and I truly should have. When I asked about timeline, they said "Oh, well after the holidays" which definitely didn't align with what they had mentioned to me via email when scheduling the call. I understand timelines shift all the time, so I didn't stress too much about it. They told me they'd reach out within two days and I just never heard back. I emailed the recruiter TWICE, once thanking them for their time, and a second time asking about my application status within the following month- nothing. I can take a hint, I knew I wasn't being considered but felt like at the very least they need to tell me that given the time I dedicated to making my application video, and my flexibility when scheduling the screening call. So I emailed the recruiter again after about a month of being ghosted, and I CCed the marketing director, I inquired about my application explaining that I knew the team still had access to the video I submitted as I keep getting notified that different members of the team are viewing it. I asked if I was still being considered and if not, why I hadn't gotten a response to my many attempts to communicate. The recruiter immediately responded saying that they've moved on with someone with more experience etc and they shared a link to a google form for me to rate my interview and application experience. I get it if you're busy interviewing tons of applicants etc, but the fact that I was getting notifications that different members of the team were accessing my submitted video despite the team hiring someone else, is SO STRANGE to me. Overall, what a rude experience. It really sucks because I truly believe it would have been such a great fit and a fun experience but all my interactions and certainly my first impression were negative. I initially didn't want to write a review because often when I see negative reviews on Glassdoor, I take it with a grain of salt especially when someone doesn't get an offer. I waited months before writing this and have since been hired elsewhere. I just wanted to share my experience to further educate on how this type of hiring process is detrimental to creatives and hiring them. The right fit will respond promptly, will listen during your interview and will certainly not ask for free work before even meeting you.
