Interview
Beware of sharing current company internal workings and practices if interviewing with them. Incredibly unprofessional, unethical, outright questionable interview process with many of the team members based in Asia therefore lack of respect/understanding. I felt like the interview was masked to lure people in from other big tech and learn about my company practices instead of focusing on my profile and experiences. It felt more like a survey than real interview.
Recruiter wasn’t very honest from the very beginning. Lack of trust and they don’t want to put anything in writing, they rather call every other day and ask me to share breakdown of my current compensation (which is not usual industry practise).
Overall, no surprise many reviews from current employees says HR or their People&Culture is bad in Tik Tok, my own experiences also goes to show it really is the case. Inexperienced self promoters in senior positions. Many other great and ethical companies out there. Hard pass in the future.

Question 1
How many direct reports does your manager have? (example of an questionable question asked by them)
Talked to Recruiter and few other team members from the Beijing office. They were nice enough but all of them asked highly unprofessional and unethical questions like the inner workings, team structure, policy making, reporting line of my current company which is big tech.
Throughout the interview I felt like they were more interested what my current company is doing as oppose to trying to understand my profile. I felt very uncomfortable at these questions and gave very generic answers. It felt like they were doing market/industry survey masked as “interviews”. So be wary during interviews with Tik Tok!
Received verbal offer and the recruiter made few phone calls and insisted I share my current compensation which was again not normal. Few days later they rescinded my offer without even providing any feedback. Later I knew, they hired someone with half of what they initially offered me.
I am glad now that I didn’t join this company, given people are leaving and being treated like working machines with no work life balance and bad working hours.
Would never ever apply for Tik Tok again!
