Sean Fisher brings many years of diverse clinical experience to his role as Director of Nursing for the Emergency Services Department (ESD). Fisher has worked at ANTHC since 2004, where he started as a Lift Team Technician at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Prior to his promotion as ESD Director of Nursing, Fisher was a Clinical Nurse Manager in the ESD. In his role, Fisher oversees operations in the ESD. He is responsible for leading a high-functioning team, ensuring optimal care, and maintaining the department’s smooth operation, under often stressful and fast-paced conditions. His direction for developing the ESD is guided by High Reliability Organization principles, such as operating in a complex, high-risk environment, and maintaining excellent performance and avoiding failure. “I have held every position inside the ESD, except for provider. I’ve worked as an ER Tech, new grad RN, Staff RN, Charge RN, Clinical Shift Supervisor, Clinical Nurse Manager and now Director,” Fisher said. “I work with the most dedicated staff members. ANTHC promotes Tsimshian man as Director of Nursing for the Emergency Services Department

Construction Update: Construction crews are making exciting progress on the Emergency Services Expansion, with an additional 18 emergency exam rooms opening on Saturday, March 15! These are individual patient rooms outfitted with the latest technology, including privacy windows that become opaque at the push of a button. The latest phase of construction completes “Zone Delta.” Construction crews will complete the final furniture, fixture, and equipment installation, go through their punch list, and finalize commissioning before we open the new space. Crews will continue to work on “Zone Charlie,” just north of Zone Delta. Interior framing, gypsum wallboard installation, ceiling support installation for exam room lights and lifts above the ceiling, and in-wall mechanical, electrical, and plumbing are underway. Reminder: Temporary Emergency Services Department is now open As construction continues elsewhere in the hospital, we have opened the Temporary Emergency Services Department (ESD). Patients should present to the Temporary ESD, located on the southeast side of the hospital. Access to the Temporary ESD is from the Diplomacy Drive entrance. Emergency Services Expansion update - March 14, 2025

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a $20 million investment to address energy and climate challenges in five communities in the Bering Straits region. The grant funding will support development and installation of community-scale solar arrays and battery energy storage systems in the communities of Brevig Mission, Elim, Koyuk, Savoonga, and Teller. Design and construction of the new systems will be led by the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), and the project will ultimately lead to ratepayers receiving utility relief payments for household water and sewer bills. Regional support and workforce development to maintain the systems once they are built will be provided by Kawerak, Inc. “This grant will help provide cleaner energy for communities across the Bering Strait region, while reducing the amount they have to spend to bring in diesel fuel,” Senator Lisa Murkowski said. “I congratulate ANTHC and Kawerak on their successful application and thank the EPA for making this investment in Alaska communities.” Article continued on link. ...Show more

We are excited to spotlight one of these top employees for her countless contributions to communities throughout Alaska and congratulate her recent accomplishments recognized by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Alaska Chapter. ANTHC extends our appreciation and excited congratulations to Darlene Ayapan, who was recently honored with the NAWIC Alaska Chapter’s Constructive Women Award! According to NAWIC, “The Constructive Women Award recognizes trailblazing women who have broken barriers, redefined industry standards, and paved the way with innovation, dedication, and leadership.” Darlene began her 15-year long, and counting, career with ANTHC as an Electrician Apprentice in her hometown of Kwethluk, Alaska. During her career, she has established herself as a dedicated, hardworking, and humble member of ANTHC’s Environmental Health and Engineering team while achieving the position of Journeyman Electrician II as well as being a true trailblazer as one of only 56 female electricians in the state of Alaska according to recent statistics from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) Board of Directors named Natasha Singh President/CEO following a national recruitment effort led by the executive search firm Spencer Stuart. Out of 225 highly qualified candidates, Natasha’s dynamic leadership and clear vision for the Alaska Tribal Health System stood out. “Natasha emerged as the best person for the job,” ANTHC Board Chair Kimberley Strong said. “Her leadership style uniquely qualifies her to navigate the external challenges that currently face our Alaska Native Health System, and her vision of building a self-sustaining system for our Alaska Native people into the future is encouraging.
