Mission Our Mission is to be the provider of choice in the communities we serve, a gathering place for caring professionals and a safe haven for residents to thrive--one person and one family at a time.
Description Haven Health was founded in 2013 with its central focus on the fulfillment of a threefold mission. Haven Health’s mission statement is “Our mission is to be the provider of choice in the communities we serve, a gathering place for caring professionals and a safe haven for residents to thrive—one person and one family at a time.” Every decision the company has made since its establishment has revolved around its alignment with and in achieving its mission.
A privately-held company, Haven Health originally acquired six locations from a prior skilled nursing operator in Arizona. The original locations included skilled nursing facilities in Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Douglas, Flagstaff, Safford and Show Low. The first several years of operations focused on clinical outcomes, the employee experience and in establishing the Haven Health culture and brand. Within one year of operations, Haven Health’s clinical achievements included the drastic improvement of state health survey outcomes as well as key clinical indicators and the overall quality of care provided. Understanding that more engaged and stable employees naturally results in higher quality care, Haven Health increased total compensation for employees and released more than 15 new benefits and programs enhancing the Employee Experience for its Caring Professionals.
While clinical outcomes and employee satisfaction are essential in fulfilling its mission, Haven Health also knew that in order to create a true safe haven for residents to thrive and to present a more desirable gathering place for Caring Professionals, significant investments were made in the physical operations of existing locations. Several locations experienced the Haven Health remodel process, which is unique and distinguishable throughout Arizona, with many more locations either currently in or announced for renovations.
As Haven Health’s unique employee culture and focus on outcomes became more established, the company began expanding in late 2014 with the first of several new acquisitions. Haven of Globe and Haven of Yuma were acquired in November 2014, the first two acquisitions for Haven Health. Additional acquisitions since that time have included Haven of Lakeside (March 2015), Haven of Tucson (November 2015), Haven of Camp Verde Assisted Living (March 2016), Haven of Scottsdale (April 2016), Haven of Phoenix (June 2016), Haven of Lake Havasu (June 2017), Haven of Sierra Vista (November 2017) and Haven of Show Low Assisted Living (January 2019), Haven of Sedona (July 2019), Haven of Saguaro Valley (July 2019) and Haven of Sandpointe (February 2020). Since its original start of six locations, Haven Health has doubled in size in the number of operating locations and significantly increased the number of its Caring Professionals. Today, Haven Health is the largest rural healthcare provider of skilled nursing services in Arizona and employs nearly 2,000 healthcare employees.
Haven Health is recognized for its ability to produce outcomes and for its ability to make operational objectives become realities within short periods of time. Haven Health is often sought for advice clinical practices, employment decisions and operating mentality. Haven Health is operated by a team of local facility level department managers who are overseen by a team of management members centrally based for quick access to Haven Health locations. The interaction between management and facility leaders is key in Haven Health’s success, whereas many other skilled nursing operations are based outside of Arizona. Haven Health’s management entity maintains a beautiful and large office in Gilbert, Arizona that is also used for centralized company meetings and trainings. It also allows management members to normally reach a location within one day’s driving.
Haven Health manages an intricate network of highly sophisticated systems that enhance its ability to operate like a larger company but maintain the flexibility of the small, privately-held company that it is. With access through commonly-owned ancillaries, Haven Health has access to technology, behavioral health, recruiting, project management, financial operations, clinical operations, human resources and accounting services. This structural power provides a clean, organized and efficient organization that permits Haven Health to both perfect current operations as well as increase its holdings by expanding through acquisitions. Carefully managed systems, policies and procedures with strict requirements to the adherence of such create an environment in which operational and clinical outcomes can be reviewed and improved—and done so without the red tape often found in larger public companies.
Haven Health’s logo is a green tree that consists of three branches with individual leaves that are distinct and separate placed inside of a circle. The branches of this logo are reflective of the threefold mission and purposes of the company while the individual leaves are representative of each individual family, employee and guest of Haven Health. Location names are normally patterned by including the city name of the location. Employees are referred as Caring Professionals and are required to have the mission statement memorized as part of their annual performance review, the highest weighted component next to their job description tasks and responsibilities. Caring Professionals are required to know, live and implement the mission of Haven Health and to always be guided by its core values of trust, empowerment, accountability and mutual respect. Haven Health is admired for its ability to create a culture that is distinct in an industry where culture is plagued by the demands of regulation and the often demanding physical and emotional requirements in order to succeed. The family-feel, personal culture reflects Haven Health’s commitment to its Caring Professionals on a personal and professional level as well its desire to affect patient outcomes by empowering their caregivers.
