Mission WellStone is a name that references the history of our community. Long before Huntsville became known as the Rocket City, a thriving local resort attracted people from across the country who came here for renewal and restoration. That resort was located where Monte Sano State Park is now and the park’s name is actually the Spanish term for “Mountain of Health”. We like that idea…that WellStone can be a “mountain of health” for anyone on the recovery journey. The word “Well” in our name represents a focus on wellness rather than illness. “Stone” suggests a strong and firm foundation…much like the mountains that overlook our valley. Our tagline is Connect to Health & Well-Being, a phrase which holds the promise of a brighter day for our clients and their loved ones.
Description WellStone, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and North Alabama's mental healthcare leader, is ensuring that residents in Madison County, Cullman County, and neighboring communities have access to quality mental healthcare. Anytime. Anywhere.

With 70 evidence-based programs, and the recent addition of 24/7 crisis care, WellStone is uniquely positioned to serve everyone’s mental healthcare needs, regardless of resources. WellStone turns no one away due to inability to pay.

WellStone provides mental healthcare and substance use treatment services to adults, adolescents and children age 3 to geriatrics.

Our team of nearly 500 employees consists of case managers, therapists, administrative professionals, nurses, nurse practicioners, psychiatrists, technicians and more. We work on-site, and across Madison and Cullman counties in group homes, schools, probate court, alongside law enforcement, and more.

In recent news: WellStone recently built North Alabama's first 24/7 emergency mental healthcare center. WellStone Emergency Services, or WES, transformed the way we treat those experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises. North Alabamians who previously went to jail or the Emergency Room while in crisis can now come to WES, where they receive the mental healthcare they need with the compassion and respect they deserve. WellStone has now broke ground on a pediatric wing which we expect to open in 2024. The addition will be Madison County’s first inpatient psychiatric care center for children.
