Hmmm... Vision doesn't match Execution

Pros

Overall the day to day experience is pretty good the company provides a lot of fun stuff for employees to keep them entertained. Things like: Film Festivals, Awards, Summer Party, Bowling and Golf Tournaments Benefits are fairly standard - Subsidized meals - 401k Match - Health Dental and Vision --- they offer 50% off your contact lenses, but check around sometimes price-match can beat the employee discount

Cons

800Contacts is very flat and there isn't a lot of room for personal growth. The company overall has a really good vision and idea for what the culture should be, but, office politics are really hard to maneuver around. When you find success it is far too easy to become a target for a manager's political gain causing a lack of trust towards upper management. Also, gossip that spreads around about co-workers is a serious issue in the building.

Thank you for your critical feedback. We value our associates opinions and work very hard to make contacts a fun and safe environment to work in. We have an open door policy at 1-800 contacts and would encourage anyone who feels uncomfortable speaking to their manager to reach out to a member of the people department. Thank you again for this feedback. We will do all we can to address this concern.

Outdated tech, trust issues

Pros

Mostly good people dedicated to the work Great food and gym

Cons

Technology used is outdated and duplicated by multiple teams Pair programming can be a good method for some, especially when used for collaboration between trusted colleges, however, it was used more in the sense "I don't trust you so I'm going to watch what you do" by manager. Everyone spoke of what to hear new ideas but reality from manager was "my ideas are the best, prove why there are not". It seemed more time was spent with recreation and general office banter than actually working

As a leader in the IT department I appreciate this candid feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you did not have the best experience. If you are no longer with us, I'd love for you to reach out to me directly, so I can take you to lunch. I would really like to get more detailed feedback that I can take to the team, and see how we might improve. If you are still with us, please take advantage of my open door. I think you'd be surprised at what we have accomplished when candid feedback is shared - changes may not always occur overnight, but I truly feel that we have a great group of individuals here, who genuinely want what's best for our associates, customers, and our company. Thanks again for being willing to share your experience with us. I sincerely hope that you are comfortable reaching out. I look forward to talking to you further.

Pros

Truly a 100% remote position.

Cons

Role is misrepresented. The position is advertised as “Customer Service,” yet success is measured almost entirely by how many customers you upsell into a full-year supply of contact lenses. If you’re looking for genuine service work, this is effectively a commission-driven sales job in disguise. The Bonus structure looks better on paper. The headline figure is “up to $6 extra per hour,” but talking with seasoned agents they have to log ~50 hours a week to reach that tier.. Since starting, it’s been clear the digital team is stretched thin. We were told it’s rare to handle three chats at once, but during every shadowing session with experienced agents, juggling three active chats was the norm. It felt like the workload was downplayed during onboarding. Expectations set during training did not match the actual daily demands. There’s a noticeable gap between what’s promised and what’s delivered. I do think seasoned employees & new hires deal with the inconsistency’s because it does have the flexible of being fully remote.
