Pros

I started at 1-800 Contacts seven and a half years ago as a Shipping Associate in the Salt Lake City distribution center. At the time, what initially drew me in was the company’s tuition reimbursement program. But what’s kept me here all these years has been the people and the culture. I’ve always felt valued and appreciated—like more than just a number. Throughout my time here, I’ve had the chance to work in a variety of roles across the business, and that journey has led me to my current position in the People Department on our Talent Acquisition team. Growth is truly supported here, not just in words, but in action. For example, I was recently given the opportunity to attend Open for Ops, a conference hosted by our Applicant Tracking System, Greenhouse, in San Francisco. It was an incredible experience where I was able to connect with others in the industry, learn best practices, and bring back new ideas to elevate our internal processes. Opportunities like that make it clear how invested 1-800 Contacts is in developing its people.

Cons

With so many exciting projects and opportunities for growth, it can sometimes feel a bit fast-paced or overwhelming, especially when priorities shift. Staying organized and adaptable is important, but overall, it’s a good challenge to have in a company that’s constantly evolving.

Pros

A culture of people taking care of people. Countless development opportunities. Phenomenal work/life balance. A sense of community.

Cons

It is a company, which means it isn't going to get everything right every single time, but I've been here for 13 years because in the few times I've seen them get it wrong, the speed at which things were corrected was remarkable.

Pros

I've worked for numerous companies that have well-defined values. This is the first one that actually lives theirs—Big Hearted, Tenacious, Unconventional, and Better Together. They demonstrate this with their impressive benefits, collaborative work environment, and care for their employees. Every year, the company puts on fun events—family parties, team building activities, volleyball, golf, bowling, pickleball tournaments, etc. They also celebrate the individuals who work for the company by holding events to celebrate Black History Month, Women's History Month, Pride, etc. They're regularly soliciting input to make things better. The building has a full-service kitchen with talented chefs who make amazing food. There are always drinks and snacks available. I love being able to play volleyball on the court outside with my coworkers during the nice weather. Everyone is an owner in the company, sharing in the company's success throughout the year. The Flexible PTO has let me enjoy a great work/life balance. My manager has been helping me grow my skills and work on my career path within the company. People stay long and are promoted internally regularly. The leadership is authentic and transparent, and feels more human than past jobs.

Cons

Honestly, there isn't much downside to working here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and bringing our values to life through your words. It’s incredibly meaningful to hear that Big Hearted, Tenacious, Unconventional, and Better Together aren’t just words on a wall, but something you truly feel in your day-to-day work. That's the goal. We’re glad to know the events, benefits, and collaborative culture have made a positive impact on you, and that you’ve found real support in your manager and team. Great management creates great working environments, and we will continue to invest in our leadership. We are thrilled to hear you feel a great harmony with work-life balance and career progression. We want your work to be fulfilling and your life to stay well-rounded! We also want to thank you for your thoughtful advice regarding how we handle difficult moments like layoffs. We agree, living our values during the hard times is just as important (if not more so). Your feedback is a great reminder of the responsibility we have to support our people with empathy and care. We’re grateful to have you on the team and appreciate all you do to help make this an awesome place to work.
