Pros

1-800 CONTACTS was a great place to learn and grow with the company. They offer lots of great benefits like an amazing restaurant, gym, film festivals, summer parties, etc., but I always felt the best thing about the company was the people I worked with. After working with the company for a very long time I would count some of my best friends as co-workers. It's also a place that allowed me a lot of opportunity for personal growth and development with managers that saw the potential in me.

Cons

There are only so many open jobs to be promoted into so sometimes good people have to really push themselves to get into that next job. Also if you don't like change you may have a hard time with the company...I enjoyed the change and never got bored there, but some people struggle with an environment that can change rapidly.

1-800 CONTACTS is very pleased with our new ownership, T.H. Lee. We are working on some exciting new projects, the biggest being our new building which will be completed in July 2015. We understand change can be scary as we don't know what the future holds, but T.H.Lee is a committed owner of our company and we're excited for the big plans for growth we have for the future. We encourage our associates to discuss their concerns openly and frequently with their supervisors or a Human Resource representative, our doors are always open. We are pleased that this Associate recognized the work-life balance we have as it is a priority for us. In addition, they mentioned the fun work environment, competitive wages and great benefits which continue to make us the great employer we are.

Pros

The company cares for it's employees. They provide yearly opportunities to attend training classes or conferences, have subsidized meals. Management is also very understanding of challenges outside of work.

Cons

There are limited opportunities for advancement outside of a management position. The main body of employees is split between three adjacent buildings which limits interaction between business groups.

One of the unintended consequences of having such a positive and rewarding culture that results in very low turnover in our IT Department is that it can result in limited opportunities for advancement into leadership. Although this may happen, we do promote internally all the time and we're proud to say our best performers rise to the top frequently. We encourage all of our associates to meet with a member of their leadership team and / or a Human Resource representative to discuss a career pathway within the organization.
