Pros

The company treats you great. Fun activities, great cafeteria food at next to no cost, friendly and social environment. No politics, just people who want to get their work done. Was a great place to build my career. The CEO John Graham is also an incredibly personable figure. Very down to Earth.

Cons

Compensation isn't groundbreaking, but it is competitive.

Pros

There are some decent perks like the on-site gym and cafeteria. The work-life balance is acceptable if you don't mind not advancing.

Cons

Leadership seems to lack a clear vision for the tech stack, leading to a lot of tech debt and frustration among engineers. Raises are minimal and do not keep up with inflation or the local market rates in Utah.

We are glad you enjoyed perks like the gym and cafeteria, and that you had good work-life balance while working at 1-800 Contacts. Associates’ wellbeing is important to the company, and we strive to provide the resources and flexibility our people need to maintain healthy, happy lives. Also, thank you for sharing your experience of working in our Engineering department; we take feedback seriously and use it to find ways to improve. Tech debt and tech stack are complicated in established ecommerce enterprises, and it's an issue we've been working on from the beginning. We currently have multiple projects underway to tackle tech debt and streamline our tech stack. Working through tech debt and optimizing systems is a constant need, and we know that in the ever-changing landscape of tech, this job will never be fully done. We want to acknowledge that because of low turnover and high tenure in our Engineering department, advancement has a bottleneck. That said, we encourage continual skill growth and celebrate when associates can find advancement outside of the organization if advancement inside of the organization is not available within an associates desired timeline. Additionally, we are dedicated to promoting from within as higher-level and leadership positions become available. Lastly, we appreciate your feedback on pay. We regularly review our compensation structure to remain competitive and ensure we’re recognizing the great work our team does. Your input will help guide those ongoing conversations.

Pros

Nearly the perfect company to work for. Great culture, awesome benefits (not the health insurance or pay, the other stuff), and lots of growth. It was a very comfortable place to work and I always felt safe speaking my mind and had the autonomy to do my work.

Cons

They simply don't pay enough. I was laughed at when I asked for a raise and was told I need to work somewhere else to get what I was asking. So I did.
