The new CEO is not a leader ... and perhaps the worst manager I have ever worked for (combative, disruptive, autocratic, and at most times, abusive) The move to the cloud was too late and with the wrong cloud infrastructure provider when solely focusing on the Retail/CPG market. The expectations for growth through new sales people and/or new partners was unrealistic considering the product debt, the marketing investments, the market awareness, etc. The HR team (when once strong) is now just following orders ... which no longer makes it a "safe to say" environment. The singular focus on one sector (Retail/CPG) for the platform offering combined with taking existing customers for granted is not a recipe for long-term success or growth.

Executive team lacks strategy and vision. The new CEO has been around 18 months yet didn't move anything forward, other than laying off half the company (as you'd expect from someone who was a marketing director at IBM for most of her career) and cutting minor expenses (like kitchen restocking, cheaper toilet paper) to make things look good better on paper. Tech is outdated and overpriced. But CEO killed any possibility of innovation with headcount reductions. Given the state of the product, sales team is failing and is a revolving door, it is hard to find anyone who stays more than 6 months as execs just blame failures on foot soldiers and fire/re-org to seem busy, not trying to address the core problem and blaming covid-19 for underperforming while a lot of competitors serving online retailers actually doing better because of it. It will be tough for the company to succeed with a CEO who couldn't even do justice explaining what the company does nor understands how the retail industry works and is a person nobody sees as a leader worth following. Imagine a leader smiling at a company all hands minutes after announcing a layoff, reassuring everyone that there would be no more layoffs, while she already made plans for the next round of layoffs to be announced the following month. Imagine a leader that pressures employees to write positive Glassdoor reviews. Imagine a leader that asks the social media team to put her headshot in Twitter and LinkedIn posts every other week with "visionary" quotes to promote herself. I don't believe this "fake it till you make it" approach could be sustained much longer.
