Pros

Some outstanding staff members both on the shop floor and in the offices. Made friends for life during my time there. State of the art equipment, not afraid to invest in assets. Gained a great deal of experience and knowledge. Tools always replaced, like for like,if damaged or lost. IPAF certification provided and paid for by the company. Interesting plans for expansion in engineering department in the future regarding machinery and work processes.

Cons

A bullying culture exists at A-safe that as far as I perceived (and witnessed) permeates from high management throughout the business. Whilst I couldn’t say this is encouraged, I can say it is certainly tolerated. Staff members are treated with little to no respect by management and this creates a pretty miserable daily working environment. I can say from experience I was humiliated at least once by a member of senior management infront of approximately 50 staff members during a Festive competition event. This fact for the larger part is made worse considering the quality and dedication of some of their staff members. Some of which I know are still plodding along, under appreciated and underpaid. An almost pointless pension package, no healthcare benefits, very basic first aid facilities that were often under stocked. Over engineering the production process, insisting machinery be run inappropriately (insisting on running CNC machines with lubricant against the advice of the manufacturer and internal engineering department, for example) leading to frequent breakdowns in turn putting enormous, unnecessary pressure on production and maintenance. Almost always followed with a confused and angry response and a desire to seek blame before resolution, from higher management. Rapid in and out culture regarding staff recruitment, staff almost regarded as disposable. HR department are in the pocket of higher management. Certain instances of bullying committed by members of high management were malicious/vindictive in nature. Distinctive and sour separation between office and shop floor. Shop floor are regarded as second class and consequently are provided with second class canteen and unisex toilet facilities. This is even more evident in the fact that the office canteens are subsided, whereas the shop floor canteen is not. This obviously creates animosity and contributes to the unpleasant working environment. Staff in almost all positions in the company are paid under industry average. No real or official training on specialist machinery provided at all during employment. Stores are in a terrible state and are of next to no practical use when it comes to breakdown response. No time or investment provided to improve situation. Higher management impose extremely unrealistic deadlines for projects. Causing stress and conflict between all departments involved.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review about your time at A-SAFE. It is good to know you made great friends and you gained a great deal of knowledge and experience here – I hope this has assisted you in your current role. Firstly, I just want to clarify there is no bullying culture at A-SAFE as this would go against our company values. You have given a lot of specific feedback which is quite micro-level, so we cannot comment on all the points made. However, I can assure anyone reading this that all machines are run appropriately and efficiently to the guidelines and safety standards required, and all staff who operate this machinery are given the specialist training required to do so. We keep documented records of all training, be that general, specialist or health and safety, so we know when anyone is due an update or refresher. We also support staff through professional training qualifications, as evident from the certification you received. Thank you for the feedback on the stores area. As you say you left over 6 months ago, you may not be aware that we have since recruited a position in this area, so the issues you highlight have been resolved. Regarding your points on working environment, I can confirm we have recently started a huge building and refurbishment project which will extend our factory allowing more facilities for shop floor staff, refurbish and extend our car park, provide an outdoor garden area for all staff. On top of this, we are currently looking at other ways in which we can further improve employee experience for both shift and office-based workers. Once we have the results of our November 2019 Employee Engagement Survey, we will have a better idea of the areas we need to focus on. Thanks again for your feedback and I wish you the best of luck in your new role.

Pros

Great people to work with and a fantastic location with nice facilities. In parts of the business very forward thinking and a world class product.

Cons

Bullying culture in place headed up by the head of operations. Too much micro managing and a disregard to some health and safety legislation.

Thank you for your review and your kind words on our people, facilities and products. I just want to make clear that there is no bullying culture in place at A-SAFE. It is not something tolerated at A-SAFE and completely goes against our culture and the values we encourage and expect all staff to embrace in all aspects of their role: - We are pioneering - We do the right thing - We are in it together Regarding the point you made on disregard to health and safety legislation, I can confirm we are a health and safety conscious company as evidenced in our products. We are undergoing a rapid period of expansion, and while this is happening, we always aim to both meet and exceed all compliance requirements. To help with this, we are also expanding our health and safety team as you can see in our current live vacancies.
