Pros

Coworkers are smart, passionate people who have big dreams and ambitions for medical education. Benefits are great and overall management tries to take care of employees and provide a great working environment. There are tons of opportunities for learning and professional development within the organization and my experience is that management encourages employees to use break time to take advantage of this. Work life balance was great - while things get busy and sometimes work is just crazy, my managers really supported me during those times and tried to make sure that they did what they needed to so that I could get things done and go home. It's a friendly culture with great people. I made friends while working there and would recommend it to anyone considering it as an opportunity. I would 100% go back to work there, if life opportunities brought me back in that direction.

Cons

Some departments are better than others for opportunities and professional development. It is a large organization and opportunities will depend a lot on the particular cluster or manager. Despite efforts to be more collaborative and work better across the organization, finding information and processes outside of ones cluster can at times be difficult. The organization seems to be struggling with a balance between being nimble and responsive to opportunity and remaining stable and focused with mission. Recent changes seem to be trending toward the more bureaucracy and review, however it remains to be seen how the organization can stay balanced.

Pros

Working at AAMC was very nice as far as the benefit package. I learned quite a bit while working there. My greatest joy was working with our constituents, and some of my colleagues.

Cons

Way too many managers who do everything they can to micromanage their team. These managers did nothing to build a team. They have their favorites and they were typically the ones who got promoted. If you do well at being a "yes" person, this is the place for you. If your manager/director had a problem or concern with you, everyone knew. They would actually avoid having contact with you for fear of being labeled. Toxic managers who needed training and people skills.
