Pros

The people and the work. The work is very rewarding, it great to know we all do something to help medical education be better. The people are great, we have some staff who have been at the association more than 30 years. In this day and age, that's amazing. It is so nice to come to a job that you enjoy. You are at work for long hours, and to enjoy it is great. Staff are offered chances for training, inside and outside of the office. This training helps staff do their jobs better, and serve our constiuents better. You can always find staff that are willing to help each other.

Cons

We are in two buildings. Being in one building would be nice. We spend a lot of time walking between the buildings for meetings. Having staff in the same building will help streamline a lot of processes.

Pros

Some of the people were emotionally available for acquaintance like friendships. Good location on the West End, right next to Rock Creek Park Reasonable facilities Comparable benefits package Some organization sponsored activities

Cons

A majority of the people are emotionally unavailable, unprofessional and unaccountable for their inappropriate actions. Senior Management is decisive in making up their minds but providing consistent guidance is rare and decisions were often countered by 180 degree changes. Senior management is consistently inconsistent in supporting their decisions. A decision at AAMC is like a gazelle roaming freely across the Serengeti. Whereas, following senior management’s direction without caution within the political environment at AAMC can feel like being pounced by a pride of lions after freely carrying out the direction of senior management, without caution. If you look closely, you will see the trail of bones in the grass. Don’t be fooled, if you work at AAMC, those will be your bones one day. Due to the hostile political environment at AAMC, senior management never takes responsibility for their inability to communicate effectively, or provide consistent direction to its staff. Senior management doesn’t communicate to other members of the senior management and doesn’t communicate with its staff. Unaccountable senior management often acted unprofessionally with no consequences for their inappropriate actions. Center of Washington DC, so you had to deal with DC traffic and AAMC is 8 blocks from the nearest subway station. Senior management doesn’t provide support to their staff in order for them to carry out the decisions senior staff makes. When working for AAMC, walk very carefully, because you never know when you will step on a landmine or be held accountable for senior management’s stepping on the landmine. If you take employment at AAMC, you probably wont enjoy the experience for the less than standard pay, unless you are senior management.
