Hopeful but Lingering Warning Signs

Pros

Many units live up to the mission and values but it can be the luck of the draw. Many people can be really nice and collaborative. Work-Life balance and 403B, especially for managers over 1 year. New CIO may provide relief.

Cons

Senior leaders can be overly impressed by form over performance. Senior leaders are focused externally rather than on internal operations. Over reliance on medical education experience to the detriment of real corporate operations experience. Non-profit outlook creates lack of urgency.

Pleasant work environment, meaningful and challenging work

Pros

The work is fulfilling, relevant, interesting, and challenging. The people are nice, communicative, encouraging, fair, and responsible. The office itself is quiet, clean, and spacious. You get a lot of privacy and amenities (private office, large windows, free coffee/tea, filtered water, covered parking spot for bicycles).

Cons

No option to get an elevated desk for standing (without a medical condition). That is my only complaint!

Pros

Smart, friendly colleagues; metro accessible; fabulous 401K, metro, health benefits; managers demonstrate interest and care in employee's skill development

Cons

If you are in an entry level or mid level position, it's difficult to advance to a higher level position unless another person leaves the company; there are over 40 units in the company, and each unit has a completely different vibe in terms of work ethic, friendliness, and conscientiousness. My particular unit is somewhat insular, somber, and very busy with work. People in my unit always work through lunch, eat at their desks, and generally don't interact with one another unless they have to (but when they do interact, it's always friendly).
