Pros

The people at AARP are very friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The office is nice, with an affordable cafeteria and gym.

Cons

- The HR compensation and career policies are overly rigid, not offering enough merit-based progression. - Low performers are often allowed to get away with not doing their job. - Employee retention is a challenge, leading to added strain on those who remain. - Bureaucracy: too many layers of management causing delays and making it difficult to get things done efficiently.

Pros

- Great work/life/school balance, everyone is super flexible and cognizant that you’re still finishing up school. - Amazing coworkers, incredibly professional and kind team that believe in the mission and do their best to advocate for the 50+ community. - Learning opportunities- world-class intro into the field of communications, especially in non-profits. - Career Opportunities- Although there were no openings when i graduated for a position at my level (entry), the skills I learned helped me land a great job in non-profit commas straight out of college. - If you’re considering working for AARP - DO IT! I never worked anywhere that respected their employees more. Only left as I finished college and moved away.

Cons

- Not being unrealistic here, but I really can’t think of anything about I didn’t like. I learned a ton, got paid wonderfully (even as an intern), and made great professional connections.
