Pros

Flexibility in scheduling, some opportunities for growth, informative free CEUs and an attainable bonus structure.

Cons

Company focuses on profit over client/family wellbeing, as I have seen many clients assessed and onboarded for services that are not an appropriate fit for the clinic and end up being quickly discharged. There is chance of burnout with high caseload hours/possibility for multiple clients with high support needs. BTs receive poor RBT training, so supervision requires a lot of time training on basic principles on top of program modification and BST to teach new protocols. Your experience will greatly depend on the specific center and center management.

We appreciate your feedback. We are glad you've found our free CEUs to be a great benefit as we strive to support BCBAs in their careers. We aim to provide training and resources for all our team members, starting with our BT training program. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared with leadership.

Pros

If your criminal background check comes back clear, they will hire you for sure.

Cons

You will not get full time hours. ABS often fires people for taking unplanned leave, even if it is infrequent. Despite the quick hiring process, it will take 1-2 months before you make more than $50-200 per paycheck. Because the company limits RBTs to a maximum of 30 hours a week, your income is limited to 75% of what you would make at a full time job that pays the same hourly rate (~$20/hr).

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Working in ABA therapy does take a person dedicated to making a difference. While passing a background check is an important step, it is far from the only qualification that makes a successful RBT. We understand that scheduling challenges can be frustrating, and we work to improve this aspect of our operations when and where we can. We encourage all team members to communicate directly with supervisors when help is needed.

Pros

Kids are amazing. The lead program seems decent although many of their current leads/BATs are unable to pass the exam.

Cons

The bonus structure was changed in a way that resulted in BCBAs working more hours while ultimately earning less compensation overall. Yearly merit increases are also extremely discouraging because they are based almost entirely on whether staff hit their metrics from the previous year. This creates a situation where even using a significant amount of PTO during one month can negatively affect performance metrics and reduce bonuses or raises the following year. The center on Morris Avenue in Salt Lake City has also experienced significant turnover among strong RBTs recently. A major reason appears to be the company lowering salary caps for staff members, reportedly tied to financial strain caused by opening too many centers without sustainable planning. Morale among staff has noticeably declined as a result. There are also serious ethical concerns within the center, including allegations of insurance fraud involving BAs currently working there. One BA reportedly brought concerns to the center director and was disciplined instead of the concerns being properly investigated, which has created an environment where staff feel uncomfortable speaking up. Overall, the workplace culture, financial instability, declining compensation structure, and handling of serious concerns have made many employees lose confidence in the company’s direction. It increasingly feels like the organization is struggling to stay afloat.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Our bonus structure is aligned with the current requirements from the BACB for quality care. At ABS Kids, we understand the importance of finding a balance between work and your personal life, including utilizing your earned PTO. We believe this is an important part of your overall well-being. We regularly conduct market assessments to ensure our packages remain competitive in all areas we operate; any increases in regions are not considered temporary. As part of our certification from the ACQ, we take any and all concerns about ethics seriously. We offer multiple channels for feedback, including your supervisor, HR department, our feedback system, and our compliance reporting tools. We genuinely want to address your concerns.
