Pros

- Lean deal teams allows analysts to interact directly with C-level management team of clients - Close knit junior banking team - Responsibility early in banking career

Cons

Absurd hours with senior management that disrespects and abuses junior analyst team. Deal quality is extremely low and analyst morale could not be lower, most analysts leave within first year of hire. CEO rules with an iron fist and takes deals that include a retainer to keep the lights on, regardless of probability of close. Investment banking atmosphere is not for everyone but culture is toxic and pay is below market. Bonuses were set to be paid after 14 months and were delayed without notice and paid at later date. CEO heralds himself for his efficiency and has never read a pitch. Analysts commonly stay until 2am or later working on simple tasks that are mindless and aren't conducive to intellectual growth. Majority of partners have no respect for analysts and are quick to throw them under the bus at first chance they get, however, some partners care about analysts and help teach. As mentioned before, AGC pays interns to write positive reviews.

Pros

I got thick skin from being berated on a daily basis.

Cons

The CEO is a sociopath. He cannot keep an assistant for more than a few months because he treats them and everyone else like dirt. The turn over is absurd. The only people writing good reviews are interns hoping to land a job. Hours are insane, even if you aren't an analyst. All the other partners and PMs follow the CEO's lead and treat people with zero respect. The best thing I ever did was quit that toxic environment and run far away. Do not believe these reviews or ratings. You will end up hating your life and yourself.

Pros

Getting some ibank experience to take elsewhere as soon as you possibly can.

Cons

I never write reviews, but felt like I had to for this company. The CEO is the worst boss I’ve ever experienced in my career. He’s arrogant, impatient and treats people with 0 respect. The turnover is very high, he can't keep an assistant for over a month. He bribes both interns and employees to write good reviews on Glassdoor and Wall Street Oasis, telling them he’ll give them a good reference or add a little extra to their bonus. Every decent review on here are desperate lies to appease the CEO so they can either get a good reference, bonus, or not get fired. Everyone at AGC hates their life, are overworked and underpaid compared to other Ibanks. Even as an assistant, I was made to feel guilty for going out quickly to grab a sandwich. Everyone in the entire company is about 23 years old because those are the only people that will take the abuse and treatment. The first week I was there people were warning me about how bad the job is, even other partners. Best decision I ever made was quitting and taking another job. I should have listened to the other reviews about the CEO on here before taking the job, because you really will hate your life if you work here if you have anything remotely to do with him.

AGC Partners Response

I appreciate your thoughts. AGC is a hard charging Investment Bank where precise execution is required by the bankers and the operations/administrative team. We admit, this environment is not for everyone. Mediocre performance will expose the customer and the AGC team. We are very upfront about the standard of excellence, and frankly, underperformers will struggle, quit or eventually be replaced. Underperformers that last for a few weeks or a few months tend to blame others for taking a job that is beyond their skill set. That said, I take the negative input to heart and will always work to hire better and make the job environment challenging, stimulating and friendly. We nurture our junior employees to help them grow, albeit sometimes with tough love, to build their core skill sets and long term careers. While many have grown to senior roles at AGC, others will inevitably grow in a different direction. As an example, our current head of compliance started with us 14 years ago as the firm’s first administrative assistant and she has grown with us ever since. We are also very proud of our track record of helping to place our departing employees across an impressive list of nonprofits, venture capital funds, private equity firms, operating companies (corporate development and operations) and graduate schools. On the administrative front, we have had over 15 assistants stay over 3 years, eventually leaving to start new beginnings including graduate school, marketing roles and other personal opportunities. When these players leave, it is very difficult to find great replacements that have the skill sets and capabilities to flourish in our environment.
