PAY CUT

Pros

Good group of nurses to work with and that is all. Before yesterday I would have added the good pay for working night shift however they just decided to cut our shift differential by $10,000 per YEAR

Cons

Consistently short staffed, changing management within the ICU, overloaded with more patients than the industry standard, constantly tripling in an ICU setting is UNSAFE. Oh and the biggest CON is that they just lowered our nightshift differential by $11,000 per year. Consider many other hospitals before this one, they will constantly triple you in this ICU

Pros

The people I worked with, for the most part, were absolutely amazing. I made lifelong friends.

Cons

St. Alexius was bought by Amita Health and their main goal is saving money by cutting staff directly involved in patient care while maintaining a full array of people who work in the sidelines doing various tasks which do not pertain to patient care. They decided to operate with skeleton crews (of RNs, PCTs) causing massive burnout and frustration amongst the staff. Many seasoned nurses have left SAMC to pursue positions at local area hospitals. Now, the hospital seems to be staffed by a lot of new graduate nurses. While we all were there at some point, at least we had some seasoned nurses to watch over us and fall back on. That doesn't seem to exist now. It's a very sad and scary situation. The mere mention of a lack of patient safety consideration, is met with hushes and "Don't ever say that again!"
