Good work not required.

Pros

Good work/life balance, good healthcare benefits, convenient office location and employer 401k match, EOE, working hard not required since it isn't recognized, stupid benefits like office outings and parties, holiday pay

Cons

Promotions are rare and randomly given; good performance isn't recognized; very slow pace of change; demoralizing environment when you realize that it doesn't matter whether you do well at your job; capricious volunteer leadership to whose whims are catered. Seriously longevity here is more respected than actually doing your job well. Terrible in-house marketing department that doesn't understand basic tenets of a paying membership processional society.

Only for those who love office politics

Pros

If you love office politics, brown nosing and gossip you'll love working there.

Cons

VP's suck up to the CEO and the board. Lower staff walked on continuously. In over 5 years, the lack of innovation, caring about staff and the lack of any opportunities meant it was beyond time to move on.

Pros

Early closings before major holidays. Educational opportunities for staff at the various meetings/conferences held throughout the year. Annual meetings and conferences allow staff volunteers the ability to travel with the company and interact with its members.

Cons

Dated company culture masquerading as innovative. Management-level staff is only so because of longevity with the company and not necessarily based on skill-set or managerial qualities. Job titles and descriptions are ill-defined, with clear power totems and little to no room for advancement. The company is departmentaly siloed, often creating friction between various teams.
