Pros

Great office, good team, excellent experience. I really enjoyed my time here.

Cons

Mid-level management needs review. A lot of burnouts and double standards from my direct manager. HR needs to keep a closer watch on those who are genuine in their stress and those that simply take advantage.

Pros

I love the Asics brand and I am passionate about our products. I'm lucky to have a great store manager, but other facets of the job are typical retail and sales work. If you're into selling running and training gear, it's a fun job. Good employee discounts on shoes and clothes.

Cons

Raises and promotions are rare, do not let them think there's a lot of "growth" as my interviewee told me. Have to make numbers for the day, week, month, year. Any commissions are based on store goals, and personal sales numbers. Hourly wage is above minimum wage, which is nice. My last raise was 10 cents, though... come on, guys!

Pros

The team I worked with was fun and it felt kind of like a family. We held community outreach events which were always fun and it was enjoyable when the store was making great money during the peak seasons. I was passionate about selling the product because the product was so good it practically sold itself.

Cons

Sometimes we would go a long time before new product was coming up which made customers and sales associates frustrated. The store is very high tech and that is great until wifi goes out and you cannot get anything to work and it's embarrassing when dealing with customers.

Pros

- Super easy place to work, hence under-performers can camp out until retirement. - In general, people are nice as long as you steer clear of the office politics. - Footwear quality is unsurpassed in the market. Too bad no one knows how to market it properly. - There isn't a lot to do at HQ so you will have plenty of time to explore other hobbies and maybe get 1 or 2 trips to Boston out of it. - If you are friends with senior leadership, you can literally sit at your desk and do nothing. If you're a manager and need friends, you can just hire them. - Hirota-san seems to know what he's doing. I really hope he can get things on the right track before it's too late.

Cons

For HQ; not sure how regional offices manage their turnover. - No raises - Annual bonuses cancelled for fiscal 2018 - HR is abysmally bad. If you fill out your end-of-year employee review, the HR managers can't even tell you when you will receive your feedback or when promotion decisions will be made. - If you're a woman, don't even bother. I can't think of a single woman besides the board member who made it higher than manager. - Leadership is constantly changing branding and strategy. I can't wait to see what they come up with next. - Expect at least one marketing org restructure per year. - Bad/under-performing managers are not fired. They are simply rotated from team to team. - It is very unlikely you will do the job you were hired for. This may be standard in Japan but it is somewhat unexpected for foreign employees.
