Pros

Good 401K. You can potentially work with some really smart people if you're lucky. It's a great crash course learning environment for young engineers. Company is great to work for if you're a metallurgist or on the business side of things.

Cons

People strongly opposed to innovation/changes. Expect to be called in the middle of the night or get called in on weekends. Action item oriented - the thought is by keeping busy you're accomplishing something. A lot of blame and no one taking responsibility for anything. People losing jobs or quitting and no one filling their position. Lot's of expressed dissatisfaction nothing done to address it. No team efforts. Very few projects or changes to lead without experiencing extreme opposition. No recognition for achievements. Procedures on procedures on procedures. A lot of older guys about to retire a lot of younger guys on the verge of quitting. No progression. There seems to be a long course of nepotism. People promoted who don't do anything. Lack of interaction from management. A clear distinction in work environment between management/business (mahogany desks private parking) and engineers who sit in dirty windowless rooms.

Pros

Good pay and company 401k contribution. Great place to gain incredible experience as a young engineer. Good commitment to safety.

Cons

Poor medical benefits. I have declined them, thankfully my spouse's employer provides adequate benefits. If you have surgery, expect to pay $5k+ out of pocket. Absolute work overload. As the number of employees have declined drastically in recent years, the same workload has only increased. No time to concentrate on what is truly important to our job functions. Little focus on long term improvement in areas other than safety and cost reductions. This all contributes to frequent turnover of young supervisors and engineers. Many senior managers are well past retirement age, are disgruntled from when the company got rid of all medical benefits for salary retirees.

Focus On $$$ not People

Pros

Due to the size of the company, there are many opportunities for growth.

Cons

Senior leaderships focus is on revenue not people which has formed a very toxic culture. This has lead to the downfall of the once highly regarded safety culture. Managment also fails to remove people from leadership positions who are setting either entire departments or divisions back. You are not free to speak your mind and if you disagree with any form of management, retaliation may be in line.
