Challenging but rewarding

Pros

I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of assignments in my three years at Abacode. I have transitioned several times and been given the freedom to explore other industry verticals as well. At each step of the way, there was a deep bench behind me, allowing me to step into unfamiliar situations with confidence. I am constantly impressed with the professionalism of others around me.

Cons

Personal growth is a double edge sword. I have to constantly learn and adapt to prepare for each engagement. Work is rewarding, but this job is also demanding.

Pros

The benefits are incredible. The pay is above average. Everyone I work with is a superstar in their specialty. On-the-job training where we are routinely working on new and exciting technologies and helping build the best cyber security product out there. The top level of the organization are incredibly smart with a deep and rare set of knowledge and insight with a profound vision. My team is composed of extremely high-quality professionals with only the customers and product quality in mind. Both my direct manager and the director of my department has been more than wonderful coping with off time for vacations, random "life" stuff that pops up, and medical leaves without flinching and with deeply caring support. At times when I’ve worked late, working on a passion project at the company, multiple people approached me to make sure I was okay, and to be sure I wasn't going to burn out and didn't feel pressure to work extra hours. There was no pressure, I just genuinely enjoy certain projects.

Cons

Remote work is hard. Time management and personal discipline require vigilance. Some people aren't cut out for it. It took me months to really fully adapt, but everyone experiences it the first time they work full time remote. To help, organization, planning, and management have really stepped up to fill the gap, and the people I interact with are always courteous and professional.

Pros

- great pay, great benefits - excellent work/life balance, not a place that will grind their people out - actual open door policy - met with top management for one-on-one after starting just by asking for meetings. cool people too - lots of excellent, big clients - lots of cool projects to work on

Cons

- some intra-departmental friction that doesn't lead to good things sometimes - some of the projects are too small and/or could be managed better
