Pros

- Interesting technology - Get to work with some extremely bright individuals. The CS team is full of excellent people - Leadership changes in the last year have given a massive quality of life improvement. Georges is a fantastic VP who cares about his team - Much like any job, make sure to do your due diligence in the department you'll be working in and the leader you're working for/with. Customer Success has turned it around in the last year and I would comfortably recommend working here (if you have a solid work-ethic), but cannot say the same about other departments like Engineering / Product.

Cons

- Crazy workload, especially during the end of quarter. Most mid-market CSM's have 120+ accounts, some enterprise CSM's have ~80-90 accounts in their book - CSM's operate in a gray area at Abnormal, meaning, we're not comp'd / responsible for upsell/cross sell, and we have renewals managers who handle the quoting/PO process. On the other hand, we're not Technical CSM's so we also need to pull in Product/Support for more technical conversations. - Non-transparent and stubborn leadership on the Engineering side of the house has made it tough on CS. Constantly changing roadmaps, half-baked products (or quarter-baked) that we are trying to charge for but don't work or provide any value, and aggressively defending the product when we try to give customer feedback on how to improve.

Great place to work, unless you’re a Security Analyst

Pros

- Abnormal is very accepting of entry level positions (especially for the Security Analyst team) - The people are fun and enjoyable to work with, I made many friendships here - The company is growing - Good benefits, decent time off, remote work, etc.

Cons

My main talking point here is related to the Security Analyst team. Abnormal has recently blown up on social media platforms for people looking to break into the tech industry. This is because one of their open roles as a “Security Analyst.” Has minimal job requirements and is basically a gateway into tech. The only problem is, this job isn’t very technical and if you’re someone looking to get into “cybersecurity” this position probably isn’t what you’re expecting it to be. As a Security Analyst you’re merely sorting through emails ALL DAY LONG. There is pretty much no other responsibility to this job. The job requirements are minimal because this job basically requires you to know how to read a basic email. The pay for this position is low (obviously, given the requirements are minimal) and the work is just extremely boring. You don’t learn much in this position because basic technical knowledge so this position could be your gateway into tech if you’re really struggling, but don’t expect to love this job. This department is also basically cut off from the rest of the company. There is almost no way for you to network or work with people outside your department unless you physically reach out to them and ask for a zoom call. But, there is basically no business relationships built outside of the department here. I was one of the lucky Security Analysts who got promoted to a different team. Once being promoted the first thing I noticed was how often I communicated with other departments, this was something I rarely ever did while working as a Security Analyst. I don’t think this is a bad company to work at by any means. I’m grateful Abnormal Security gave me my gateway into tech and allowed me to prove myself to later get promoted/further my career. But I wanna make everyone aware of what they’re getting into when they are hired as “Security Analysts”

Hi there, Thanks so much for leaving an honest review—we truly value your feedback. We’re sorry we didn’t get it right. As a swiftly-growing startup, we’re working hard to scale and iterate, which can lead to rapid updates and changes in our roadmap. We recognize this does not come without challenges and frustrations. We’re actively working on upleveling our recruiters and investing in manager enablement to support our rapid growth—especially on the engineering team—in a more sustainable way. We’re also committed to developing a better company-wide listening strategy and optimizing the ways we collect employee feedback so we are better equipped to address these concerns as they arise.
