      ACE, of course, is THE place

      Pros

      New tasks day-to-day, great hands-on job, friendly environment and helpful management, laid back environment, colleagues are helpful, never routine, I had an ease in finding time off (may not be applicable to all stores). Although you are on your feet all day, the attire is casual so running shoes enable comfort throughout the day.

      Cons

      As a woman working at ACE, I faced some challenges regarding the customers respect of my knowledge. Frequency of putting yourself at risk of injury is high [ cutting glass, filling propane tanks, etc.], if you don't trust yourself then this job may not be for you.

      Pros

      Working with the very friendly customers and good low level employees, Great job for a follower or a student.

      Cons

      Poor management, and low morale. Incompetent Store managers did nothing but destroy morale of a good work force. They asked opinion but never took advice from the people "down in the ditches". They priced product for convience vs what the average retail price would be.

      Pros

      The hours are more family friendly than a big box store. There is a small town feel to these stores, where you have a chance to get to know the regular customers.

      Cons

      The biggest downside is working 3 weekends a month and the pay is lower than the big box stores. There is also an expectation from customers that every employee has an exhaustive knowledge of every department. While most of us have a general knowledge of every department, explaining how to re-wire or re-plumb a house is beyond many of us lowly sales people (yes, people get really mad and treat you like you are an idiot, it's frustrating).
