Pros

- Autonomy - Open Source - we're always willing to share everything we've learnt to help other partners excel in this work. - Developmental opportunities. - Incredible Manager - coach, mentor and supporter. - Co-workers - I've never worked with a team that's more on top of it than at AF. People are smart, driven, responsive and working together towards our goals. They are also genuine and I've been able to quickly create friendships at work - which only makes the work more fun. - Variety - no days are the same! Every day brings a new set of experiences and challenges. - Flexibility - management focus is on deliverables and outcomes not following a process/checking the box. There is flexibility in hours/work from home depending on your role.

Cons

- Any organization our age/size is bound to face scaling challenges: systems, processes, change management - Demanding work days, you need to set your own boundaries. Can be challenging when working with folks that are very committed. I've seen folks do it really well - others struggle to strike the balance. - We haven't found our sweet spot yet re:balancing urgency and being strategic/comprehensive in our planning

Pros

I have been at AF for 5+ years in the Network Support office, and was a teacher at a NYCDOE school prior to that for three years. I have never worked in a place with such committed and dedicated individuals. Everyone is working toward the same goal, and that is inspiring and fulfilling. I have had a weekly coaching meeting every week since I started and feel that my manager and teammates are all very invested in my growth and development.

Cons

You need to find a way to get to your own work/life balance as every person defines it differently - the Network is not the type of place to say "no emailing on the weekends" for example - you need to set your own boundaries.

The sheer number of really bright and really kind co-workers who are passionate about scholars Great immediate supervisor who encourages my individuality Opportunity to engage in important, strategic work Paid time off between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day!

Cons

"Whatever It Takes" culture is sometimes taken too literally Need more transparency around non-instructional career opportunities
