Random work schedule. management very slow to create schedule, and always drasticly changes the schecule sometimes days before its put into effect. Most managers know nothing about cars, which is very frustrating. its VERY frustrating to work with a manager who knows nothing about cars, and basically have to teach them about things. new products and services just appear in the store with no mention of them to the employees. one day there will be a sign advertising a great new product (such as how we are supposedly able to order sets of padlocks with the same key, or whole interior carpet sets for car), and no one, not even the store manager knows anything about it. also the company does not support its own policies, for example, if a battey warrenty runs out, and the customer gets mad and calls corperate, corperate makes you apologize, and give them a free battery. the policy is basically to fight the customer untill they threaten to call corperate, then go ahead and do what they want. then make us apologize (which i refuse to ever do) for actualy trying to uphold their policy. its rediculous. also management only promotes friends. you can be ASE certified, know more then anyone else in the store, always be on time, always there when called in, and still lose your promotion to the guy who doesn't know a thing about cars, comes in late, and has far lower sales. but they will stil get the job over you, because they are good friends. its very depresing, and frustrating. hard work is NOT appreciated here, and goes un-noticed. if you are ASE certified, and are genuienly a good worker, they will promose all kinds of promotions, and raises, just to keep you there, because having ASE certified employes looks good on their paperwork. but in reality, they have no intentions of promoting you. managers also try to get you to sell items to customers without their consent (those little battery felt washers, purple battery grease, the green or purple packs of disc brake pad anti squeal, and the orange packs of electric grease aren't free, they cost $1.29). Managers will do anything they can to get as much money out of their customers, to have the best numbers on their reports, no matter who they screw in the process, all just to get a few extra dollars on their bonus. btw, only managers get bonuses. i've meet many people who say they wil never shop at advance auto again, because they later found out they were chaged extra. so agian. i only recommend this job to someone who just wants a part time, for a little extra money.
