Pros

Reason I took the job was because I would be paid to learn about cars. Well I did learn a lot (and still am learning), but maybe less about cars and more about how to deal with people. In a nutshell, in jobs where the customer is coming to you for assistance, it will be much better for you if the customer believes you're the expert. In a place like Advance, where the spectrum goes from your run of the mill house wife looking for wiper blades to old sourpuss Joe Mechanic, that's either very easy or very hard to pull off. My advice would be to stick to the script, no matter what winding path your customer will try to lead you down.

Cons

Unfortunately the location where I started had the Manager from Hell. He was the type of person who was really bad at his job, but somehow good at keeping it. Basically if you think of boss from the Dilbert cartoons, that's pretty much him, except in an auto parts setting.

Pros

Room for advancement, It has always been a very stable place to work if you come to work and do your job.

Cons

It is hard to balance between work and home life. Alot of long hours and 50 hour work weeks

Pros

Upper management gives you weekly verbal feedback on your strengths/weaknesses and how to better yourself through online courses given to you while on shift. Even though I am an entry level employee, both commercial and retail co-workers, including management treat me like family . It is a great place to work and is never a monotonous work day !

Cons

Your hands will get a little dirty handling customers' old parts being traded in for "core"; the old part needed for credit in exchange for the new one. But that's to be expected handling an old part from under the hood of someone's vehicle that is usually as old as their vehicle itself. That is not an issue with me and plenty of cleaning supplies for your hands are readily available in our breakrooms.
