Pros

Your ability to meet new people who enjoy the same things you do. I cant think of anything else positive about this company.

Cons

Hours are horrible They dont care about you Dont expect any raises if you are in management. They will tell you, well, we bring in new RPPs at $18,000 a year and you make alittle more then that, so you dont get a raise.

Pros

The benefits for full time employment are good, as well as the 20% discount. If you're a gearhead, you have alot of access to finding parts and meeting people who share the same passion. As long as you don't steal from the company or sexually harrass employees or customers, it takes a lot to actually lose your job there

Cons

Customers are constantly expecting the employees to be mechanics and either install their parts, or diagnose car problems w/o the equipment (and sometimes knowledge) to do so, then get mad when the employees aren't able to. DIY = DO IT YOURSELF...alot of people still don't seem to understand that acronym. I'm all for educating someone and giving them what they need to get the job done, but I'm not gonna hold their hand or do it for them. I'd be a mechanic if that was my goal. Any customer that gets an attitiude usually ends up getting their way for fear of a complaint to corporate despite the fact that they are completely in the wrong sometimes. Complaints are usually weighed heavy against the employees, and they don't even get their side considered. Employees are expected to have a very comprehensive knowledge of cars and parts, yet are paid about as well as a cashier for a grocery store. The workload handed down to the stores is always more than they are staffed for, and managers usually end up working much harder/longer than necessary for not much more than regular employees. Tons of ridiculous acronyms, phrases, and generally pointless information are shoved at the employees to remember, making it hard to concentrate on what they really need to know. Goals are generally determined by what your store isn't doing as well as the other stores in your division/region/area, so they are constantly changing each week, which keeps the focus on what is being done wrong instead of praising what is being done right. Advancement within the company is a joke. If a position higher than salesperson becomes available, the company will try to find as many outside applicants as possible before considering current employees. I listed "hard to be fired" as a pro, but in reality this is a con for the people that work in the stores that actually do their jobs/do them well. Employees who are all around useless are constantly kept for much longer than they should be, and are usually just transferred store to store rather than disciplined the way they should be.

Pros

Chance to build a career in retail that is not like a career in "retail"Product knowledge is rewarded and recognized

Cons

Since becoming a public company (through a merger/takeover of Discount Auto Parts) , this company has trashed its culture of teamwork ,individual respect and career satisfaction. It is now run by and for Wall Street. The bean counters are in control.
