Pros

Good and experienced people plus the 20% parts discount. You also meet and know some mechanics so you know where to take your car to. A good place to work if you're retired or a college student.

Cons

Lack of advancement and the pay could be better, it is close to poverty level. Also, we need more team member communication. Managers work 45 to 50 hours a week. It would be hard to plan a career here. Many times, I don't get lunch.

Pros

great coworkers ,the 20% discount. but you should see mark up.

Cons

if you have a prob. the only answer you can get from our dist.man. is IT IS WHAT IT IS. you work 11 hours one day and maybe get a lunch,and no breaks.then work 4 or 5 the next.when you close at night,you have to punchout and the finish paperwork,up to 10 min. anight on your own time. No security if you get robbed,or even shot at least day shift will find you. A company of this size and the workers live below the poverty level ,but that is good for the shareholders.

Pros

Reason I took the job was because I would be paid to learn about cars. Well I did learn a lot (and still am learning), but maybe less about cars and more about how to deal with people. In a nutshell, in jobs where the customer is coming to you for assistance, it will be much better for you if the customer believes you're the expert. In a place like Advance, where the spectrum goes from your run of the mill house wife looking for wiper blades to old sourpuss Joe Mechanic, that's either very easy or very hard to pull off. My advice would be to stick to the script, no matter what winding path your customer will try to lead you down.

Cons

Unfortunately the location where I started had the Manager from Hell. He was the type of person who was really bad at his job, but somehow good at keeping it. Basically if you think of boss from the Dilbert cartoons, that's pretty much him, except in an auto parts setting.
