Pros

White Memorial had an excellent Versant RN Residency program. I learned a lot, and after the residency was completed, I felt adequately prepared to become an independent nurse. In my opinion, one of the best aspects of being at WMMC was working with the people - whether it was colleagues, peers, or patients. I especially enjoyed working nightshift with my nursing colleagues whom I became very close with.

Cons

During the time I worked at WMMC, the hospital had been struggling with staffing and resources. There was a period of time where I was canceled every week due to a low patient census, which then lead to a period of volatility in regards to staffing. Sometimes I would be on the unit without a unit secretary, CNA, or EKG tech. In addition, due to a lack of modern resources, there was a period where I was using outdated equipment such as old hospital beds and lift machines, which resulted in more physical labor for the nursing staff. However, these resources were updated before I left, so that was great.

Struggling Times

Pros

Nice staff in department I have worked with for past decades (those that have been able to stay on with ongoing management changes and policies).

Cons

Overall hospital and corporate management is a struggle with many employee benefit cuts over the past few years, struggle to pass regulatory inspections, and a fairly recent BOLI fine. Unfortunately this hospital is experiencing some rough waters and hasn't been able to get out of them yet. Employee turnover has increased in recent years and has put a hardship on the employees still currently employed.
