Potential but upper management needs to change

Pros

One step forward, two steps back. Agile IT offers cloud solutions that many other companies aren't even aware exist. That also means we sometimes offer services that aren't ready yet. Time management is flexible. I can work remotely sometimes. I've seen a few people sent to official Microsoft training this year. There's an Xbox, but I have one at home so I never use the one in the office. Our documentation is better than most, but engineering doesn't deliver it consistently. We're "cross-trained" so there's no accountability when a task isn't completed.

Cons

We used to review financials weekly at team meetings, but that stopped last year. We just laid off a few people. Characterizing that as a "growing company" seems misleading, but so are our other practices. We are routinely told to inform our clients that our team has 50+ people when we have fewer than 20 FTE's. Were a "data driven" company, but I have no metrics showing my growth over the years. Benefits aren't the best as others have mentioned. The other recent review about upper management being difficult to reach is also accurate. The CTO disappears for weeks/months at a time. The CEO will often skip your meeting to take his kids to baseball, but forget to tell you he won't be attending. The COO is overly process-oriented but great. I heard he's retiring though. New VP is good so far. I'm not a fan of the sink or swim training. Some people have advanced, but I don't have any personal goals or KPIs assigned to me from management. You're expected to "forge your own path" but not really provided any guidance on how to do that.

Pros

At Agile IT, we get to work with exciting new technology and interesting customers. Microsoft has some seriously rad products and getting to be on the bleeding edge of delivering those products to businesses is crazy cool. I'm never bored at work - there's always something to do, someone to help, or something to learn. We don't silo our employees - everyone on the tech side learns everything, and we get to pursue what WE'RE passionate about, rather than being stuck in the same role dealing with the same tech forever. The upper management of Agile IT has been wonderful to me - I started here as a sales admin and have had the opportunity over the years to move my way up to managing the service desk. Management truly believes in growing employees' skill sets and promoting from within.

Cons

I think for some people, what I think of as pros (self-guided learning, a fast-paced work environment) can be overwhelming. As long as you're motivated to succeed and passionate about technology, Agile IT is the right place for you.
