Morale Down, Chaos Up

Pros

Good work life balance. Some opportunities to work remote. Decent pay.

Cons

The new CEO has created chaos within the company with his "transformation" project. No employees have seen tangible benefits of these changes. Many middle management positions were eliminated and in most cases those responsibilities have been absorbed by other employees who were already stretched extremely thin (with no change to their compensation). Ultimately, this has severely impacted morale across the company. I often talk to people who I'm meeting for the first time on a teams call and they openly complain about what is going on within the company. There is a huge resistance to adding headcount, but upper management is quick to suggest hiring external employees or paying for consultants. Benefits aren't as good as they make it out. Paternity leave is only good if you're in California or another state with specific benefits. Have to work for the company for 10 years before you earn additional time off.

Pros

Working on products that help the lives of people has been the best part of this job. The people around really care about the work. Benefits are industry standard, but not special.

Cons

The disconnect between upper management and lower level contributors hasn't been more apparent. The all hands meetings results in management exhaling a murmur of words that grazes the scalps of the audience, never quite landing where it matters. We all ask each other what it means. We shrug and wait. People cannot express their feedback honestly since they cancelled the company survey this year. One of the listed reasons was essentially, "We heard you the first time" after repeated years of people ranking compensation and benefits lowest on the survey. Yes... that was actually a reason they gave. Insane, I know. The One Agilent Way is slowly eroding.

Pros

Agilent's products support cancer patients, testing of food/water for contaminants, basic scientific research, and R&D for innovative pharmaceuticals. We have great products. Agilent also has decent benefits. There are many hardworking, dedicated, intelligent people within the company who make the place enjoyable and know how to work together for the good of the company. The company still has remote working opportunities, which help me to maintain a good work/life balance. Agilent has generous Volunteer Time Off and philanthropy programs. They just donated a large amount to hurricane relief efforts and encourage staff to contribute to charities with matching donations.

Cons

The past year at Agilent has been full of change and uncertainty, between a new CEO, my immediate manager and his manager leaving, and two rounds of layoffs, just to get started. The communication around all of this has been subpar. I am not sure what to think about my company anymore. Not everyone at Agilent is great to work with. Some people are not very supportive and don't respond to emails or requests for assistance. My onboarding was not very good and it has been hard to integrate into the company because of the lack of a good foundation. Also, Agilent is a very complicated company with too much beauracracy, too many siloes and poor communication. Professional development and career advancement are not possible within Regulatory Affairs. The organization is flat.
