The Incredible Shrinking Company

Pros

They still have a little of Bill and Dave's DNA, but not much.

Cons

Company has reverse growth of 90% in the last 13 years. From about 51,000 when they split off from HP, Agilent now has about 4700 employees thanks to repeated spin-offs, mass firings and uber-stupid business decisions like trying to get 9into the MRI business. Agilent has pissed billions away on failed acquisitions and mergers.

Pros

This company appears to have a nice facility in Boulder, Colorado and explains during the interview process that they are a "state of the art" facility, which sounds great when looking for a biotech manufacturing position.

Cons

The company uses extremely dangerous organic chemicals in large quantities and under pressure. They start the training process in manufacturing before allowing the new employees to complete a list of required reading, obtain prescription safety glasses, or steel-toe shoes. There is a limited safety training class by EH&S during a 3-hour meeting, mainly warning you to be careful, "You're going to be working with some nasty chemicals." Actual safety training is provided in manufacturing through suggestions along the way while you are already working with all the equipment and chemicals. There are only a few knowledgeable, trained employees. Most of the manufacturing chemists, supervisors, and managers are new and do not have a grasp of the processes at this company.

Pros

Had freedom to build out new site on Drupal

Cons

Very little support, much of staff who've worked there for ten plus years couldn't give a toss about you; an incredibly dull and uninspiring environment
