Pros

Very easy going terminal manager, shop mechanics are quick to respond to equipment problems. Dispatchers are easy to work with and don't hassle you over hours of service if you can't complete a run.

Cons

401K match is horrible, heath, dental, and vision insurance are sub par and expensive. Equipment is ancient and breaks down frequently, newer tractors are cheapest of the cheap and break down frequently. I was an Air Liquide employee before A.L. bought Airgas. All distribution employees were moved under the Airgas umbrella. We took a cut in 401K contributions of 7%. A.L. would contribute up to 9% in matching funds, Airgas is only 2%. That equates for me to a cut of $7000 a year. They want to take us from progressive pay to straight hourly (overtime after 40) which will cost me about $200 a week. The runs we have are very short now thus you have to waste a lot of time to make any money. With progressive pay, efficiency is rewarded. Hourly is a lazy man's scale and forces you to spend a lot more time at work rather than getting done quickly.

Pros

Great Schedule, Off Holidays, Decent Pay, Great Work/Life Balance, Nice Benefits

Cons

Basically this is a glorified customer service position. They want you to believe so hard that its sales! If management actually spent most of their "Hands on Time" actually coaching and demonstrating to their sales reps how to overcome obstacles and present product worth selling, this location would actually succeed. From the sales managers on up to the VP are the epitome of downfall for this location. The Vice President is soooo outdated with time that he has a narcissistic approach to EVERYTHING. He's very standoffish and unapproachable and belittles people when they speak up. There are so many pending claims against this place its unbelievable and they don't even know it. The structure changes almost every 6 months due to branch repeatedly not making their goals. Management is more concerned with beating you down instead of lifting you up. RUN LIKE HELL if you interview with this place. Its only a matter of time before someone really exposes the DULUTH branch as the pit of hell that it really is. There are some dark forces here and its not a pretty site. I honestly spend most of my afternoons at home job searching to free me from this stress. Its to the point where reps are going out on FMLA and Short - Term disability just to get away from this place while job searching. YES ITS THAT STRESSFUL not the job at all but the under trained and unqualified management here. They will run you in the ground and care less about your situation. Come January I will be submitting paperwork to my doctor as well for leave because of the amount of stress I am under everyday when it comes to this place.

Pros

Decent benefits and pay...that is about it.

Cons

1) Micro Managed to death...they expect emails are answered in real time. If not they would call and badger you about why the email took an hour to respond to. Ignoring the fact that you may be out making sales calls (aka - doing your job). 2) Too much redundancy in reports and Management...had to fill out a report that showed our pipeline on the intranet AND fill out a spreadsheet for top accounts AND have weekly sales meetings with a DM AND monthly sales meeting with the Group AND monthly safety meetings AND have quarterly Bulk Gas reviews. All together...these activities would take up almost 40 hours a month to complete creating one lost work week per month. Almost felt like upper management was trying to create meetings so they could duck making sales calls to their customers. 3) Total disregard for personal time... I would get calls from my boss at 6am on a day off or 8pm on a Friday with the expectation that I answer those calls...if I missed the call and he went to voicemail...you could expect be badgered for 20 minutes about why you didn't answer when you next spoke with them. Most of the time, these calls were not emergencies...they were calling to review an email that had been sent earlier in the day. 4) Management is a bunch of "yes" men that manage by gossip and hearsay- The management in Chicago is rife with "Yes" men. Management won't take the time to observe you firsthand or get to know you as a person...they will just ask other employees what they think of you and that is how they form their opinion. Once you get some "bad press" you will never get away from it. 5) Management lacks any type of time management tools. I spent more time sitting at my bosses desk while we were supposed to be doing a one on one for my sales pipeline and he would answer emails during the meeting or stop to look for a file or email that was sent to him for 15 minutes in the middle of the meeting.
