HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT

Pros

Flight benefits, but even that isn’t worth it.

Cons

Where do I even start, the management is terrible, you cannot get a straight answer from them, if you ask one question you’ll get 20 different answers. There is literally no consistency in this company whatsoever. You have to pay for union dues while you are on probation, which makes no sense at all, why pay for something when you’re not even apart of the company yet and they can fire you at any minute. They have a union meeting which consisted of them handing you the union book (not going over the union at all) and then handing you a piece of paper telling you to sign it so they can take your union dues out every month. If you’re new get ready to be “juniored”, that basically means that can make you work mandatory OT. They can junior you to where you’re working 16 hr a day and ON YOUR DAY OFF. Say you start at 1:30pm-10pm, they’ll either come up to you or post on the wall that you’ve been juniored and now you start at 6am or end at 2am!! The only way they can’t junior you is if you pick up OT on your own for at least 4 hours (that protects you for 2 days from being juniored). Coworkers like to talk a lot, everyone is in everyone’s business when they don’t need to be, it’s like high school all over again. Management could care less about you and things going on in your life. If you are 1 min late you get a point. If you get into a car accident and are late, you get a point, lmao ridiculous. Look anywhere other than this place!!

Pros

Free flights, opportunity to transfer to other locations

Cons

Hostile work environment among employees, hazing, poor trainers, the union guidelines are not in the favor of the employee during the 6 MONTH PROBATIONARY PERIOD, seniority is based on age within hire date (older gets priority on schedule selection by date of birth), low pay. Overall their new hire process where they send you to Seattle is a ploy, they tell you how great Alaska Surlines is and how great a place it is to work then you start training and it’s nothing like they made it seem. Side note: Alaska Airlines is a great company TO THEIR CUSTOMERS NOT THEIR EMPLOYEES!

Decent place to work

Pros

They give you great flight benefits. They are not stingy with bonuses. They have contests and employee recognition week. It's a pretty fun company to work for. Most of the leadership staff is approachable

Cons

Not being able to request a day off is ridiculous. I get that people might abuse their flight benefit but maybe it would be easier to let people request days off and flag that day as unable to non-rev travel. Pretty shady inner politics around shift trades, Even to get medical leave. Supervisors need to be trained on how to talk to people and show empathy. The attendance policy is way too rigid!
