Pros

Alcami is a growing company with an ambitious outlook for their future. They eager to take on the novel challenges that face the contract pharmaceutical industry, and invest in technologies that will help achieve their goals. This gives scientists and management alike a rich opportunity to build their technical skills, work on a variety of projects, and get involved in diverse disciplines relevant to contract pharmaceutical.

Cons

With such ambitious goals comes an immense cost. The work life balance is tipped heavily towards work. The day to day activities are demanding in both the amount of time required to execute projects, and the level focus required to ensure accuracy and quality. Not a problem for motivated career minded individuals if the work culture provided is an environment designed to cope the overwhelming stress. Alcami, although willing to acknowledge the burden it puts on their employees, is unwilling to act in favor of supporting their personnel to meet their aggressive target for growth. Expect weekend work, and staying routinely late, however do not expect to be compensated, and do not expect to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Their bottom line, like any private business, is to ensure we are on track for the targeted growth promised to private investor(s), and if this means at the expense of an individual scientist or management, then so be it. This is the mindset continues to be perpetuated by our Executive leadership team, trickling down to the level of site directors and project managers. This strategy lacks success in the long haul. What is currently an ever plummeting moral, will eventually turn into a revolving door for potential great talent to build their skills and depart. Leaving Alcami with a sub-par product to offer clients, and lack of innovation to be a true competitor in the contract pharma industry. Alcami will have to endure the initial cost involved in retaining talent, but when you do Alcami will be transformed in the gold standard for how successful contract pharmaceutical organizations are operated.

Pros

The people (not in senior "leadership") were great to work with. They wanted to succeed and do good work. They worked long, hard hours .

Cons

Long hours, contentious environment, inept executive leadership, rampant sexual harassment by executive leadership, fired people for no good reason, executive leadership is a "good ole boys club"...you are either in or out, questionable quality practices, wasteful spending of investor money.

Good pay; not worth it

Pros

Great pay for position and experience. The company is willing to hire young, inexperienced employees and pay good money for them. You will learn a ton about the industry which will be beneficial for your rapidly approaching next job. Some pretty nice benefits if you actually receive them (bonuses specifically). Great history of agency inspections (FDA, DEA, etc) which customers love to see. New owners seem to take a strong interest in performance and are shaking things up. Young energetic work environment.

Cons

Next to zero work/life balance. Even good managers will eventually turn on you as the stress gets to them and this will be pushed down to lower level employees. The company is run on the basis of revenue only and ignores the quality and customer satisfaction that comes with a true "right first time" work environment. They will put a focus on earning more revenue each month instead of what makes sense for customer project milestones. Leadership is extremely near-sighted. Almost zero training for employees and what is given outside of mandatory requirements is geared towards customers, and employees don't really have time to attend due to work load. Forget earning a bonus and you'll be happy to get an annual pay increase that almost matches inflation. Prepare to feel guilty about taking time off even if you've earned it. Will always hire from external sources, so don't expect to get promoted even if the "potential" exists. Or if you do get promoted, they won't backfill your position and you will just have to take on the responsibility of both jobs then be made to feel like you are inadequate to handle them then they will probably fire you.
