Pros

Diversity and inclusion is valued here and touted by management but due to the midwest location, the employee population matches the local population and in turn not quite so diverse.

Cons

If you have no other option and this is the only job offer on the table and the only current means to feed your family, then by all means take the job, no one will blame you. However, if you are debating between offers then heed the warnings and take the other job. The seemingly good pay will not compensate for the lack of adequate management and toxic work environment Alliant Energy delivers. It may seem attractive in the short term but there is no longevity in your role and you'll either find yourself wanting to find a different job or be on the end of yet another round of layoffs. If you're one of the "lucky" ones that avoid being laid off, congratulations, you have now absorbed all the work that those laid off used to do without any training or increase in pay to reflect your new responsibilities. In my personal experience, managers here lack the understanding of what their employees do on a daily basis. Not only do they lack the technical expertise, but they've been moved around so much they aren't familiar with what individuals on their team do and impact of the work. Even the most well intentioned managers can't keep up with learning what their team does with the constant restructuring. If you get a new manager every year, or every other year, you have to reestablish yourself with them so you can imagine how difficult it is to get promoted, if you care at all about career progression. The middle managers know that upper management are making terrible decisions but lack the conviction and courage to tell them what employees truly feel. Morale is very poor, but upper management could care less as long as the balance sheet looks good. Surely, financial stability is important but should not be the only thing that matters. Employees don't feel valued here and the more valued employees feel the more engaged they are and in turn they will deliver great work, but unfortunately the complete opposite exists. Employee surveys have all but been abandoned. Lastly, I will leave you with this. If you're constantly being moved around because of layoffs and restructuring, and your manager is getting to know you, what is the likelihood they will advocate for you to stay amid more layoffs which are quite frequent? And will you want to stay given all the work that's now expected of you from positions that were eliminated?

Pros

Salaries are slightly above average for the area

Cons

Transformation has devastated this company. So many good people are now gone. IT (which is already thinly staffed) got thinner with a mass layoff. The rest of the organization is down to the bones. Meanwhile, management is collecting their large bonuses by letting go of their staff. It is quite a sad company. I am glad I am gone from that place.

Steady Paycheck, Restricted Sector. Nothing else I can think off

Cons

- Arrogant Management. They provided lip service. Decisions are made by higher-ups in total disregard ground realities. - Heavy offshoring. They are looking to build offshore development centers and /or hire Vendors. - Middle Management heavy. Micromanagement. - Antiquated Processes and Software. - Work pressure due to unrealistic expectations.
