Still loving it at Allscripts, and room for improvement
Pros
- Some very knowledgeable and collaborative colleagues, who have been with the company for a long time (i.e. more than 5 years). - Capable middle management, with some managers being with the company for a long time. - Good process management, using Scrum and Kanban methodology, with current team transitioning from three-week sprints to two-week sprints starting in 2020. - Good work/life balance, as managers discourage you from working overtime (on nights and weekends), unless a deadline needs to be met.
Cons
- Product technology is outdated (VB6 UI layer, with .NET business layer), and is transitioning to more modern platform, but that will not be in effect until a couple years down the road. - Like most big software companies, departments still operate in silos (Development vs. services vs. support). - Company stock price is a bit on the lower side, despite sizeable market share and growth potential. - Compensation is on the lower to average scale, not surprising given the current technology stack, and there is no annual bonus.
