Pros

There was a lot of work place independence. I typically traveled alone and was able to make decisions as I best saw fit without micromanagement from my manager.

Cons

The travel schedule was unsustainable. It was 100% travel and eventually the company put in a policy that required travel to be either on weekends only or after 5pm on week days. We were expected to be on the clients site Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm. This resulted in often having a 7 day work week. Often times I would fly out on Sunday work at the client's office Monday - Friday fly home on Saturday and then fly out the next day (Sunday) again to another client. Again it is not a lifestyle that is sustainable for someone with a family or someone who wants a family.

Pros

The company has an excellent suite of products... And some real dogs. It depends. Some of the business units are outstanding. Others are astoundingly, outrageously bad. It depends. Some leaders are fantastic. Others? I literally would not wish them on my worst enemy. It depends.

Cons

The sales organization is highly compartmentalized, and the business units frequently step on each others' toes. Relations between management of the business segments can be less than cordial (to the point of fisticuffs). Some sales leaders - I had one - was prone to 1:AM phone calls, hysterics, and not much else of value. For a salesperson, though, the worst thing is actually getting paid on the comp plan. I do not know of any big deal where a salesperson didn't have to fight to just get a portion of their commissions as prescribed in the plan. 95% of the company stock is controlled by a handful of institutional investors. THE top management of the company has said outright that THEY are their customers. And the company acts accordingly. Literally anything goes at end of quarter.
