Pros

open to change and actively seeking to increase diversity

Cons

Unfortunately, while Allstate Insurance company as a whole, is diverse, there are pockets of claim office locations that are not, where the deference shown to non-black employees, though subliminal, is very evident to anyone who has experienced racial discrimination. My experience is in a Florida office. A couple of weeks ago a white female in South Florida went viral for repeatedly calling a black man the "n" word and when the news contacted her, she was unapologetic but informed that of course in professional settings, you have to pretend that you are not racist. I know from my experience, that there are a lot of leaders in the Florida office that hold that same point of view based on how they communicate with the black minorities in the office. It's archaic, disgusting, and disheartening.

Pros

They offer benefits not great but they offer them.

Cons

Instability - constant changing with no clear direction. If another company is having success they follow but by then its not on trend. They can never come up with anything innovative which really hinders how you do your job. Also each office is doing their own thing there is no consistency at each MCO. Low Pay - Increase wages for people who actually do the job instead of for executives in home office. Slow to Promote for minorities. There are women in leadership on the field level but home office is limited and one minority. Benefits are TERRIBLE. High deductible plans that will have you paying your premiums for doctors appointments. I will never work at this place again or recommend anyone else to work here if they want career advancement.

Pros

Advocacy for work-life balance: Leaders and managers for the most part seem pretty understanding and encourage team members to voice their needs, whether it is spending time with the children or family at home, taking frequent breaks, or having shorter meetings... At least in theory. These are all ideas that were so frequently repeated and discussed in meetings with management that you hope, if not for you, it happens for someone, somewhere.

Cons

Confusing corporate terminology: At the onset of the pandemic the company's executive officers pledged a steadfast commitment to "Transformative Growth." This makes sense because by definition, if something grows, it also transforms. The phrase is grammatically sound. Some mistakenly believed it meant company performance would grow faster than the number of COVID cases. During a Town Hall meeting in early spring we were told Transformative Growth meant that there would be a 0% reduction in the work force. However, three months later management said that, due to Transformative Growth, the company would see an 8% reduction in workforce. It was unsettling and many troubled employees started working late, often past 8:00pm or 9:00pm local time, performing due diligence and internet searches for all possible definitions of "Transformative Growth." It later turned out that the phrase was just a colloquialism for "shareholder profit." After this realization, things settled down and 92% of the original work force went about their day.
