Pros

At first glance, Bill seemed authentic. Our company was bought in 2008, with many promises that no changes would be made. So far, so good.... BUT.....

Cons

Within 3 business days of actual transfer of former company to Amedisys, I was called at 4:30 on Thursday afternoon to "terminate" one data entry clerk and one Assistant Director of Nursing. BOOM! Let the games begin! The sheer amount of micromanagement where the DOO was required to run up to 26 separate reports to "manage," became ludicrous. I lost several key staff who seemed to be able to see the handwriting on the wall. Because I was devoted to the clients and the former team, I stuck it out until finally, in January 2011, after agreeing to take on 5 MC admissions over the weekend, a 6th couldn't be staffed safely. The response from senior management was plain mean spirited and a total lie. Although I HAD hired nurses with no former homecare experience, I received a chilling e-mail message in response to an inquiry for help, accusing me of creating my own problem because I had been "unwilling to train new staff." A few weeks later, I tendered my resignation. The Senior HR specialist seemed to understand when I warned her: "if Amedysis continues to treat the DOO like I have been treated, more Directors will leave." Prophetic? Yes! I finally left in February 2011. The stress, lack of support and the focus on revenue were intolerable. Run, don't walk away from this company. When I left, the stocks were trading around $50.00. Today? Stockes are down to just over $10.00! LOSERS!

Pros

Patients. Learn CMS, Oasis assessment, Case Management, keep up on your skills.

Cons

You will be pressured to work long hours, and chart off the clock. No overtime allowed and all overtime has to be pre-approved (good luck with that!). You will NEVER have a predictable schedule, because if an admit comes in, you have to do it and your previous commitments to patients fly out the window. The most common complaint I get from patients is "you said the nurse would see me on X day" and that's often impossible, because yet another admission came up and you had to move your commitment to that patient to another day. Of course, you cant share this with patients, but the number one priority is Admits, Admits, Admits and patient care takes a back seat. This company is focused on profits, profits, profits. If anything goes wrong, its always the Case Managers fault. New RN hires I've spoken with are already biding their time and not planning to stay once they acquire some case management experience. This is a good place to learn Case Management, but not to stay.

Pros

Pay is good for area

Cons

Extremely high turnover Horrible benefit plan (check the fine print too). History of not meeting agreement terms based on hiring contract . No loyalty or respect to employees. Promotion of friends rather than well-deserved individuals; hard-working individuals typically don't succeed due to the exposure they bring to the table. Every man for himself company.
