Pros

Kitchen/editorial employees are intelligent, engaged, and a pleasure to work with. Vacation time and free food from the take-home fridge make the embarrassing pay tolerable for the short term.

Cons

No respect in practice or in pay (particularly for kitchen staff) Workload is very unbalanced and several employees shoulder the majority of the work. I made an effort in my time there to engage my managers and make them aware of these concerns, but I found that there was either no interest in resolving these issues

ATK: A Mixed Bag

Pros

The majority of the employees there are wonderful - kind, collaborative, creative and a joy to be around.

Cons

Leadership (CEO) is fickle , unpredictable and at times downright hostile and even vengeful. Lots of dramatic firings that create a toxic and fearful work environment. I was given advice to "tell him what he wants to hear" and then "do the opposite and hopefully he won't notice." Eek.

Pros

Let me preface by saying that this review excludes "the kitchen" there are many pros and cons there that I cannot speak to. ATK is generally compromised of a great group of people. Folks here are down to earth and are interested in what they do both in and out of the kitchen. Ideas are welcome and there is usually a lot of buzz around the newest launch or concept that we are all working towards. Although the company has been around for a while and founded on some very old school ideas and practices it still has a young vibe which at times can be a pro, especially for morale. Their vaca time is also very good IMO

Cons

On the other side of the coin there are a lot of young people working here which I've always attributed to the basic truth that ATK just isn't willing to shell out the cash for more experienced people. Salaries here are nothing special, no surprise from other comments, and turn over seems to be quite steep. With newer upper management and department shake-ups we're left with a lingering sense that things could change at any moment.
