Pros

Great energy, good people. Managers control the energy and work ethic of each store. Each store is different. Great standards. Fun environment. Good annual conferences and freebies.

Cons

It's retail. Holidays, long hours, customers.

Pros

I can't think of any pros, I should've did my research before accepting a job with them.

Cons

I worked at Corporate, you either had the managers brown-nosing with whomever was their superior or micromanaging you. My co-workers would work slow and watch netflix and then try to throw anyone not in the click under the bus. When they wanted to bring pets to work they tried to get us all to sign papers waving AEO of any liabilities. We got paid a salary and frequently had to work 12 hour shifts with no notice. AEO has a rolling layoff policy, you have about two years before you're replaceable. Pretty much all of the company is white with a few token blacks, and all of the security was black with one white supervisor. They force you to go to meaningless meetings that have no relevance to you. The head of the department just talks for an hour and anyone that asks questions normally gets replaced a few weeks later. They are misogynistic and homophobic. Only apply if you are a married alcoholic middle age white male with tattoos and kids, looking to cheat on your wife with the various pretty girls that are really just at AEO as decorations. You will be fired at any notice if they don't like you. Be warned.

Pros

This may be lengthy but after 3 years I got a lot to say! As long as you show up for work with a positive attitude and some work ethic you will love this job. Your hours may vary but if you show that you want to be there the hours will be gladly given to you. There are almost ALWAYS contests going on that will have you going home with free clothes and prizes all the time! If you have a passion for the clothes, this is a great place for you. The discount for AE employees is out of this world. You will find no better anywhere else. Talk to your managers. Your managers are there to help you and be your gate to all things AE. If you want to have a career with American Eagle, make that known to your management team! They are always looking for motivated people and they love to promote within the company but they can only help you if you tell them you want that help. AE has an amazing atmosphere. Its fun and laid back and somewhere that is really fun to be. It is great though high school and college and even after. Your management team is key. I have worked in 3 different stores, 2 with great management and one with horrible management. The stores with great management teams have been what has kept me at American Eagle for 3 years.

Cons

The hours- with any retail job, the hours are hard. It's weekends and nights and even holidays. But it is challenging to find a retail job without these things. It just comes with the territory. Floorsets are especially rough. You are working 2 days out of the month over night (9p-5a sometimes) to put out new product. This is an optional position that gives you great money resulting from hours worked, but they are rough at times. The pay- Typically AE starts it associates out at minimum wage but with time raises do come. It takes awhile but they do. As a part-timer you may need a second job. Full time is reserved managers and Leads. Again, your management team is key- The one store I was in that had a poor management team was almost what made me leave and never look back. Your managers are what make your store amazing or what make them awful.
