Pros

There are definitely benefits to working at American Eagle Outfitters. Employee Discounts - The normal discount is 40% off of normally priced items or 50% in the week or two after a floorset (when we bring out new merchandise). Employees also receive 25% off of clearance items and items sold in the store which were not produced by AE. Flexibility - As a part-time job at a store which usually has a large staff, there are seldom issues in requesting time off as long as proper notice is given. Work Environment - A good work environment, fun people to work with and good relations between employees and management.

Cons

All in all I have experienced only a few negatives to being employed at American Eagle Outfitters. Pay Raises - I've been employed at AE for some time and have had no employee review or other opportunity for pay advancement. Management Incompetence - Having worked with multiple Store Managers and more Assistant Managers I have worked with both very skilled competent managers and also managers who did not seem at all prepared to lead a store. Possibly better training or a more exclusive selection process would be beneficial.

Pros

Great location, benefits, and perks. Several really amazing and inspiring upper management level employees. Laid back environment. Exposure to many cross-functional departments and projects.

Cons

Catty atmosphere, HR is ineffective, high turnover. A few rotten attitudes in management sour what could otherwise be creative, innovative, and highly productive teams.

Pros

Discount was good in comparison to other companies.

Cons

I got hired with a group of several girls, we were told everything that would get us fired or a 'strike' (3 strikes & you're fired). Two of the managers constantly yelled & berated the other employees. I informed two of the three managers of my dyslexia, & all they said was 'you have to learn register'. Yes. I'm quite aware I just need a bit more time than others (we had 5 minute register training while being pulled away from it constantly to fill out paperwork, so the training was practically nonexistent) & they just seemed to not care. They obviously have no idea how ADA laws work. I have worked in retail for many years, I've been a manager at a store, I know what's expected of me. My store in particular doesn't care about your strengths or weaknesses. They just want you on register selling credit cards. American Eagle apparently isn't a clothing store anymore like I thought it was when applying. It's a credit card company that wants you to annoy the guests 3 times to get a credit card. If you don't sell enough you lose hours & get strikes.
