Pros

Nuclear is cool. Many other utilities have nuclear as well.

Cons

Do not relocate for a job here. Culture has always been bad and keeps getting worse. Leaders care about themselves and a very materialistic. Retaliation occurs if you speak up. Leaders are more about ensuring they look good instead of helping employees succeed. Really into themselves and videos of themselves. Lots of dead carrers at their expense.

Once stable, now turbulent

Pros

AEP has historically offered strong benefits and a sense of job security, with opportunities to contribute to meaningful infrastructure and regulatory work. Many teams are staffed with experienced, mission-driven employees who have been genuinely committed to the company’s goals.

Cons

While RTO has been unpopular, the underlying issues run much deeper. Recent leadership and organizational changes have created a noticeable sense of uncertainty. There is no clear or consistent strategic vision being communicated, and employees are not being meaningfully engaged or rallied around a shared purpose. Communication from senior leadership tends to be reactive and fragmented, making it difficult to align day-to-day work with long-term direction. The restructuring has also eliminated many traditional advancement paths, and while management has hinted at alternative opportunities, there has been no follow-through. Morale is declining, and the company is already losing high-performing talent as confidence in new leadership fades.
